Role Context
The Consultant - Gastroenterology will provide comprehensive specialist care for patients with digestive system, liver, pancreas, and bowel-related conditions in Dubai. The role covers clinical assessment, diagnostic evaluation, therapeutic endoscopy, inpatient consultation, outpatient follow-up, patient education, and long-term disease management. Arabic fluency is essential to support clear communication with patients and families, while multidisciplinary collaboration will help improve outcomes for complex gastrointestinal and hepatology cases.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and treat gastrointestinal disorders including GERD, IBS, IBD, liver diseases, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, abdominal pain, bowel disorders, and digestive complications.
* Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, biopsy, polypectomy, bleeding control, and other approved endoscopy services.
* Manage inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology cases with careful assessment, timely investigation, and structured follow-up.
* Develop individualized treatment and long-term care plans based on patient history, clinical findings, endoscopy results, laboratory data, imaging reports, and evidence-based guidelines.
* Provide specialist care for patients with hepatology concerns, chronic liver disease, abnormal liver function tests, and related digestive system conditions.
* Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, dietitians, oncologists, internal medicine physicians, nurses, endoscopy teams, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
* Communicate clearly with Arabic-speaking patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, procedure risks, preparation requirements, results, and follow-up care.
* Educate patients on digestive health, preventive screening, diet, lifestyle modification, medication adherence, and long-term disease control.
* Maintain accurate medical documentation, including consultation notes, procedure reports, consent forms, endoscopy findings, prescriptions, discharge summaries, and follow-up plans.
* Ensure compliance with DHA regulations, hospital policies, clinical governance standards, infection control rules, and patient safety protocols.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, CME activities, departmental meetings, and complex case discussions.
* Stay updated with advances in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy techniques, and international clinical standards.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification recognized by UAE healthcare authorities.
* Board certification or fellowship in Gastroenterology.
* Valid DHA Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Gastroenterology.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in a reputed hospital or healthcare institution.
* Strong expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
* Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, with strong English communication skills preferred.
* Experience in hepatology and management of chronic liver diseases is preferred.
* Exposure to advanced endoscopic procedures is an advantage.
* Strong clinical judgment in managing GERD, IBS, IBD, liver disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, and complex digestive conditions.
* Excellent patient communication, counselling, documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
