The appointed consultant will apply evidence-based clinical practices while working closely with neonatologists, anesthetists, midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Job Overview
The Consultant Obstetrician will manage patients across the complete maternity
The successful candidate will independently manage normal and high-risk pregnancies, evaluate maternal and fetal health, and respond decisively to obstetric complications. Accurate medical documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, patient education, and compliance with applicable healthcare standards are essential components of the role.
Core Duties
* Provide specialist antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal consultations.
* Assess and manage women with normal, complex, and high-risk pregnancies.
* Develop individualized pregnancy and delivery care plans based on maternal and fetal needs.
* Monitor maternal health and fetal development throughout pregnancy.
* Request and interpret relevant laboratory tests, imaging, fetal monitoring, and other obstetric investigations.
* Supervise labor progression and oversee safe vaginal deliveries.
* Perform cesarean sections and other medically necessary obstetric interventions.
* Identify and manage obstetric emergencies, including maternal or fetal deterioration.
* Provide timely clinical decisions during complicated labor and delivery cases.
* Coordinate care for patients with medical conditions affecting pregnancy.
* Collaborate with neonatologists, anesthetists, midwives, nurses, and multidisciplinary medical teams.
* Counsel patients and families regarding pregnancy, delivery options, clinical risks, and postnatal care.
* Educate expectant mothers on maternal health, warning signs, birth planning, and postpartum recovery.
* Maintain complete, accurate, confidential, and timely clinical documentation.
* Follow healthcare regulations, institutional protocols, ethical practices, and patient-safety standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement activities, departmental meetings, and continuing medical education.
* Support the consistent application of international standards in maternity and obstetric care.
Required Skills and Experience
* MBBS, MD, or an equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Completion of recognized specialist training in Obstetrics.
* Board certification, fellowship, or an equivalent professional qualification in Obstetrics.
* Active DOH license or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Minimum of 5 years of consultant-level experience in obstetric practice.
* Extensive experience managing normal and high-risk pregnancies.
* Strong expertise in maternal-fetal medicine and pregnancy-related complications.
* Proven ability to supervise labor and perform cesarean sections and emergency obstetric procedures.
* Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment-planning abilities.
* Decisive judgment when managing time-sensitive obstetric emergencies.
* Excellent patient counseling and interpersonal communication skills.
