Role Context

This Consultant


Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist position requires expertise in pediatric blood diseases, cancer treatment protocols, and complex supportive care. The physician will create individualized management plans and oversee chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusion therapy, and other appropriate treatments while closely monitoring clinical outcomes and potential complications.

The role requires effective collaboration with pediatricians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals. The consultant will also support patients and families with clear information, compassionate counselling, and continuity of care throughout the treatment journey.

Key Responsibilities

* Diagnose and manage pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, anemia, clotting disorders, and other blood diseases.
* Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and interpret laboratory, pathology, imaging, and molecular diagnostic findings.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on each patient\'s condition, established clinical protocols, and current evidence.
* Administer and supervise chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusion therapy, and supportive care treatments.
* Evaluate treatment response and modify clinical plans when necessary to improve patient outcomes.
* Identify and manage treatment complications, infections, adverse reactions, and other urgent clinical concerns.
* Coordinate complex cases with pediatricians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, nurses, and allied health professionals.
* Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and contribute specialist recommendations to treatment decisions.
* Provide patients and families with clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, risks, expected outcomes, and follow-up requirements.
* Deliver compassionate emotional support and family-centered counselling throughout diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship care.
* Use advanced diagnostic tools and medical technologies to support accurate clinical decisions.
* Maintain complete and accurate medical records in accordance with applicable UAE healthcare regulations and hospital standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, departmental meetings, and patient-safety initiatives.
* Remain informed about developments in pediatric hematology, oncology research, targeted therapies, and clinical guidelines.
* Teach and mentor junior doctors, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals when required.
* Contribute to clinical research, academic activities, or professional publications where opportunities are available.

Ideal Profile

* Medical degree such as an MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Completed specialty training in pediatric hematology and oncology.
* UK Certificate of Completion of Training, American Board Certification, Canadian Board Certification, or another recognized equivalent qualification.
* Eligibility for the appropriate consultant-level medical licence in the United Arab Emirates.
* Minimum of 5 years of post-board experience in pediatric hematology and oncology.
* Advanced knowledge of pediatric cancer management, hematologic disorders, and modern treatment protocols.
* Experience supervising chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusions, and supportive care.
* Strong ability to assess complex clinical cases and make evidence-based treatment decisions.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
* Compassionate and empathetic approach when supporting children, adolescents, and their families.
* Ability to work effectively in a demanding and fast-paced clinical environment.
* Fluency in English is mandatory.
* Arabic language ability is an advantage.
* Experience in bone marrow transplantation and advanced pediatric oncology treatments is preferred.
* Previous work in an internationally accredited hospital or tertiary healthcare center is advantageous.
* Participation in clinical research, academic teaching, or medical publications is highly desirable.
