Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Psychiatry will provide expert mental health assessment and treatment for children and adolescents presenting with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and psychiatric concerns. The role requires strong clinical judgment, Arabic and English communication skills, family engagement, and collaboration with psychologists, pediatricians, therapists, nurses, and school-based professionals. The consultant will help deliver compassionate care for young patients while supporting families in a way that respects language, culture, confidentiality, and long-term wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for children and adolescents, including clinical interviews, developmental history, risk assessment, family input, and review of relevant medical or educational information.
* Diagnose and manage a wide range of pediatric mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, autism-related behavioral concerns, trauma-related symptoms, mood disorders, eating concerns, and complex emotional or behavioral presentations.
* Develop individualized treatment plans that may include psychotherapy recommendations, medication management, behavioral strategies, family guidance, and multidisciplinary support.
* Provide ongoing follow-up, monitor treatment response, adjust care plans when needed, and ensure continuity of care for pediatric patients.
* Communicate clearly with children, adolescents, and families in Arabic and English to support understanding, trust, adherence, and shared decision-making.
* Work closely with psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurses, school counselors, and other allied healthcare professionals.
* Support families with psychoeducation, coping strategies, safety planning, school coordination guidance, and long-term mental health management.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, clinical meetings, and care planning sessions for complex pediatric psychiatry cases.
* Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records, including assessment notes, diagnosis, treatment plans, medication reviews, consent documentation, and progress updates.
* Follow DHA regulations, ethical standards, child safeguarding principles, confidentiality requirements, and evidence-based psychiatric practice.
* Promote a culturally sensitive care environment that supports Arabic-speaking families and respects diverse patient backgrounds.
* Contribute to clinical quality, service improvement, patient safety, and professional development within the pediatric mental health service.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
* Eligibility for DHA licensure, or an active DHA license as a specialist or consultant psychiatrist.
* Fluency in Arabic is essential, with strong English communication skills required.
* Proven experience working with children and adolescents in a clinical mental health setting.
* Strong diagnostic ability in pediatric psychiatry, including assessment of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and family-related concerns.
* Experience developing medication and therapy-based care plans for young patients.
* Ability to engage families with empathy, cultural awareness, and clear clinical communication.
* Previous experience in the Middle East or with Arabic-speaking populations is preferred.
* Strong multidisciplinary teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate care across medical, therapy, nursing, and school support teams.
