Role Context
The Consultant Psychiatrist - Arabic Speaker provides advanced psychiatric care for patients who require accurate diagnosis, structured treatment planning, confidential counselling, and ongoing mental health support. The role requires strong clinical judgment, careful risk assessment, medication expertise, therapeutic communication, and the ability to manage both acute and long-term psychiatric presentations.
This position carries strong patient-care value because Arabic-speaking patients and families often need clear, culturally aligned communication when discussing mental health symptoms, treatment options, medication safety, crisis planning, and recovery goals. The consultant will help strengthen mental health services by supporting ethical practice, continuity of care, multidisciplinary coordination, and patient-centered treatment.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and other mental health conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including clinical history, mental state examination, risk assessment, diagnostic formulation, and individualized care planning.
* Provide medication management, treatment reviews, relapse prevention planning, and follow-up care for patients with acute or chronic psychiatric needs.
* Deliver psychotherapy support, counselling, and behavioral interventions where clinically appropriate and within the scope of consultant psychiatric practice.
* Manage inpatient and outpatient psychiatric cases with attention to patient safety, confidentiality, continuity of care, and measurable progress.
* Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care for patients experiencing acute distress, behavioral risk, self-harm risk, deterioration, or urgent mental health concerns.
* Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide integrated mental health care.
* Educate patients and families in Arabic and English regarding diagnosis, medication use, treatment expectations, preventive strategies, relapse warning signs, and long-term wellness planning.
* Maintain accurate psychiatric documentation, treatment plans, consent records, risk assessments, progress notes, and follow-up reports in line with DHA requirements and hospital policies.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research activity, case reviews, and continuing medical education programs.
* Ensure strict adherence to patient confidentiality, ethical standards, safeguarding principles, professional conduct, and mental health best practices.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Psychiatry.
* Active DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in Psychiatry within a reputed hospital or mental health center.
* Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.
* Strong expertise in adult psychiatry, psychiatric diagnosis, medication management, crisis intervention, inpatient care, outpatient care, and mental health treatment planning.
* Experience in multicultural and multidisciplinary healthcare environments is preferred.
* Exposure to community psychiatry, psychotherapy programs, behavioral therapy approaches, academic work, or research activity is an advantage.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, patient counselling, documentation, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
