Role Context
The Consultant - Psychiatry will provide comprehensive mental health care for patients with acute, chronic, and complex psychiatric conditions. The role covers psychiatric assessment, diagnostic formulation, medication management, psychotherapy support, behavioral interventions, emergency psychiatric care, and long-term follow-up. Arabic and English fluency will support culturally sensitive communication with patients and families, while multidisciplinary collaboration will help improve continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community-based mental health services in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations covering clinical history, mental state examination, risk assessment, family context, previous treatment, and psychosocial factors.
* Develop individualized treatment plans using evidence-based psychiatric practice, patient needs, clinical risk, and long-term recovery goals.
* Provide pharmacological treatment, psychotherapy support, counseling, behavioral interventions, and structured follow-up where clinically appropriate.
* Manage both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric cases, ensuring safe care transitions and continuity of treatment.
* Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care for patients experiencing acute distress, behavioral escalation, self-harm risk, psychosis, or severe mood symptoms.
* Collaborate with psychologists, neurologists, primary care physicians, social workers, nurses, therapists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Educate patients and families in Arabic and English regarding mental health conditions, treatment plans, medication adherence, coping strategies, relapse prevention, and preventive mental healthcare.
* Maintain accurate medical documentation, including assessment notes, diagnoses, risk plans, medication reviews, consent records, progress updates, and follow-up plans.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research activities, case discussions, and continuing medical education programs.
* Ensure patient confidentiality, ethical psychiatric practice, safeguarding awareness, and adherence to mental health best practices.
* Support a respectful, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered care environment for diverse communities.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification or fellowship in Psychiatry.
* Valid UAE Consultant Psychiatry license or eligibility for Consultant registration in Dubai.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in Psychiatry within a reputed hospital, mental health center, or specialist clinical setting.
* Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.
* Strong expertise in adult psychiatry, mental health management, risk assessment, and long-term psychiatric care.
* Experience managing inpatient and outpatient psychiatric patients with complex mental health needs.
* Exposure to psychotherapy, counseling, behavioral therapy approaches, or integrated mental health programs is preferred.
* Experience in community psychiatry or multidisciplinary mental health services is an advantage.
* Academic, research, audit, or teaching experience is valuable.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, clinical decision-making, and patient counseling skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment with sensitivity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
