Role Context
The Consultant - Psychiatry will provide comprehensive mental health care for adults with acute, chronic, and complex psychiatric conditions. The role involves structured psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication review, psychotherapy-informed care, behavioral intervention, emergency psychiatric support, and long-term follow-up. Arabic and English fluency will help build trust with patients and families, while multidisciplinary collaboration will support stronger outcomes across inpatient, outpatient, and community-based mental health pathways in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric disorders including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, trauma-related conditions, and other mental health concerns.
* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations covering clinical history, mental state examination, risk assessment, previous treatment, family context, and psychosocial factors.
* Develop individualized treatment plans using evidence-based psychiatric practice, patient needs, clinical risk level, and recovery goals.
* Provide medication management, psychotherapy support, counseling, behavioral interventions, and structured follow-up where clinically appropriate.
* Manage inpatient and outpatient psychiatric cases while ensuring continuity of care, safe discharge planning, and timely clinical review.
* Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care for patients with acute distress, behavioral escalation, psychosis, mood instability, self-harm risk, or urgent mental health needs.
* Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, nurses, therapists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Educate patients and families in Arabic and English regarding diagnosis, treatment options, medication adherence, warning signs, coping strategies, and preventive mental healthcare.
* Maintain accurate medical records, including assessment notes, diagnoses, risk plans, medication reviews, treatment plans, consent records, and follow-up documentation.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research activity, case discussions, and continuing medical education programs.
* Ensure patient confidentiality, ethical psychiatric practice, safeguarding awareness, and adherence to mental health best practices.
* Support a respectful and culturally sensitive care environment for patients from diverse backgrounds.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification or fellowship in Psychiatry.
* Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Consultant Psychiatry registration in Dubai.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in Psychiatry within a reputed hospital, mental health center, or specialist clinical setting.
* Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.
* Strong expertise in adult psychiatry, mental health management, risk assessment, and long-term psychiatric care.
* Experience managing inpatient and outpatient psychiatric patients with complex behavioral and emotional health needs.
* Exposure to community psychiatry, psychotherapy programs, counseling, or behavioral therapy approaches is preferred.
* Academic, audit, research, or teaching experience is an advantage.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, decision-making, and patient counseling skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
