This Consultant Sports Medicine Physician role requires advanced expertise in sports-related injuries, musculoskeletal medicine, rehabilitation planning, concussion care, and return-to-play assessment. The consultant will evaluate patients, interpret clinical and diagnostic findings, perform suitable non-surgical procedures, and oversee personalized recovery programs.
The position involves treating professional athletes, sports teams, recreational competitors, and active individuals. Close coordination with orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, radiologists, rehabilitation specialists, nutritionists, and sports scientists will be essential to deliver integrated care and support safe performance goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage acute and chronic sports injuries affecting muscles, joints, bones, tendons, ligaments, and related structures.
* Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, functional assessments, fitness-for-sport evaluations, and injury-risk screenings.
* Request and interpret suitable laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and musculoskeletal investigations.
* Develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans based on clinical findings, activity level, and performance objectives.
* Make evidence-based return-to-training and return-to-play decisions following injury or illness.
* Evaluate and manage sports-related concussion using recognized assessment and recovery protocols.
* Perform injections, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided interventions when clinically appropriate.
* Provide non-surgical management for musculoskeletal pain, overuse injuries, and activity-related medical conditions.
* Monitor rehabilitation progress and revise treatment plans according to recovery, function, and treatment response.
* Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, rehabilitation professionals, radiologists, nutritionists, and sports scientists.
* Support athletes and active patients with injury-prevention strategies, conditioning guidance, and performance-health recommendations.
* Explain diagnoses, treatment options, recovery expectations, and activity restrictions clearly to patients.
* Educate athletes, coaches, clinical colleagues, and allied health professionals on sports injury prevention and rehabilitation.
* Maintain complete and accurate clinical records in accordance with regulatory, accreditation, and patient-safety requirements.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, clinical governance activities, audits, and quality-improvement programs.
* Contribute to sports medicine research, continuing medical education, and evidence-based service development.
* Teach and mentor junior doctors, trainees, and allied healthcare professionals when required.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as an MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Successful completion of an approved medical residency program.
* Fellowship or board certification in Sports Medicine or Sport and Exercise Medicine.
* Candidates with Family Medicine or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialization must have recognized sports medicine fellowship training.
* Eligibility for consultant-level medical licensure with the relevant healthcare regulatory authority in Dubai.
* Minimum of 5 years of post-board or post-fellowship consultant experience in sports medicine.
* Advanced knowledge of sports injuries, exercise medicine, and musculoskeletal conditions.
* Demonstrated expertise in rehabilitation planning and return-to-play decision-making.
* Experience managing elite athletes, professional sports teams, or highly active populations is preferred.
* Competence in musculoskeletal ultrasound and image-guided procedures is highly desirable.
* Strong diagnostic reasoning and independent clinical decision-making ability.
* Valid professional registration and a current certificate of good standing.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, teaching, and mentoring skills.
