The Specialist in Intensive and Critical Care Medicine will provide advanced treatment to critically ill patients requiring continuous monitoring and complex life-support interventions. This role demands strong clinical judgment, procedural competence, rapid decision-making, and the ability to perform effectively in high-pressure ICU environments.
The successful specialist will manage severe conditions such as sepsis, respiratory failure, trauma, hemodynamic instability, and multiorgan dysfunction. Working alongside anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, surgeons, internists, nurses, and other medical professionals, the specialist will support coordinated and evidence-based critical care.

Role
This position is suitable for an experienced intensive care specialist capable of managing unstable and critically ill patients in a modern healthcare facility. The role includes patient assessment, ventilatory support, invasive monitoring, emergency intervention, treatment planning, and ongoing evaluation of clinical progress.
The Specialist in Intensive and Critical Care Medicine will participate in multidisciplinary ICU rounds, supervise junior clinical staff, and help maintain rigorous standards for infection prevention, patient safety, medical documentation, and clinical governance.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive medical care to critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
* Assess unstable patients and develop individualized critical care treatment plans.
* Diagnose and manage sepsis, septic shock, respiratory failure, multiorgan failure, trauma, and other life-threatening conditions.
* Initiate, monitor, and adjust invasive and noninvasive ventilatory support.
* Perform advanced airway management, including endotracheal intubation.
* Conduct central venous catheterization, arterial line placement, and other appropriate invasive procedures.
* Apply and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring to guide clinical decisions.
* Manage fluid therapy, vasoactive medications, sedation, and organ-support interventions.
* Lead or participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency critical care procedures.
* Monitor patients continuously and revise treatment plans according to clinical findings and diagnostic results.
* Collaborate with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, and other specialist teams.
* Participate in multidisciplinary ICU rounds, handovers, and complex case discussions.
* Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, risks, and expected outcomes clearly to patients and families.
* Supervise and support junior doctors, residents, and ICU nursing personnel.
* Maintain complete, accurate, and timely clinical records.
* Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, infection-control measures, ethical standards, and patient-safety requirements.
* Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and ICU governance activities.
* Remain current with evidence-based critical care guidelines and developments in intensive care medicine.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS, MD, or an equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Recognized board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Intensive Care Medicine or Critical Care Medicine.
* Eligibility for or possession of the appropriate UAE medical license.
* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an ICU or critical care environment, preferably following specialization.
* Strong experience managing critically ill patients with complex and rapidly changing medical needs.
* Advanced competence in airway management, intubation, mechanical ventilation, and life-support procedures.
* Practical experience with arterial lines, central venous catheterization, and invasive monitoring.
* Proficiency in ventilator management and interpretation of hemodynamic information.
* Sound clinical judgment and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure.
* Strong resuscitation, emergency-response, and procedural capabilities.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Ability to counsel patients and families with clarity, sensitivity, and professionalism.
* Commitment to evidence-based medicine, ethical practice, and continuous clinical improvement.
