Role Context
The Commissioning Engineer - Projects will support the safe transition of projects from construction and testing into operational readiness. The role connects project engineering, commissioning teams, contractors, vendors, inspection teams, and operations to ensure schedules, work permits, materials, site readiness, and start-up activities are properly coordinated. By reviewing commissioning requirements, resolving technical issues, and aligning operations needs with project execution, the position helps achieve smooth commissioning, reliable start-up, and faultless project takeover.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise project commissioning activities and site-based project support services, including engineering support for new projects and plant modifications.
* Plan and coordinate commissioning activities with commissioning teams, contractors, vendors, project engineers, and operations representatives.
* Ensure commissioning activities are carried out safely and in accordance with company regulations, approved procedures, and best industry practices.
* Coordinate the implementation of work permit procedures and related site activities with concerned teams.
* Support consistent application of permit conditions across all work areas during commissioning and start-up activities.
* Prepare and verify blanking requirements, purging requirements, isolation needs, and other commissioning readiness requirements.
* Audit work sites before commissioning tasks to confirm safety, access, readiness, and compliance with approved work conditions.
* Perform multi-tasking duties to support operations during project commissioning and start-up stages.
* Review plant operating issues identified during commissioning and provide technical input to support safe and practical resolution.
* Order, track, and follow up on material requirements needed for commissioning, project support, and operational readiness.
* Monitor commissioning schedules and activities, ensuring alignment with operations requirements and project milestones.
* Interface with project teams, commissioning teams, and operations teams to organize commissioning, start-up, and takeover activities.
* Support scheduling and coordination of faultless takeover by ensuring operational concerns are addressed before handover.
* Coordinate and participate with project engineers, inspection teams, commissioning teams, and operations teams for successful completion of FAT and SAT.
* Review project execution schedules and assess their impact on operations, start-up readiness, maintenance access, and commissioning sequence.
* Identify schedule conflicts, operational risks, technical constraints, and site readiness gaps, then recommend practical corrective action.
* Maintain communication between contractors, vendors, project teams, and operations to support timely commissioning progress.
* Ensure commissioning records, site observations, test updates, permit issues, and technical follow-ups are properly documented.
* Support safe handover of commissioned systems by confirming completion of inspections, testing, punch list follow-up, and operational acceptance requirements.
* Promote safe work practices during commissioning, testing, start-up, and project transition activities.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum 8 years of experience in project engineering, commissioning, start-up coordination, or site project support within the Oil and Energy sector.
* Strong experience supervising commissioning activities for new projects, plant modifications, mechanical systems, or process facilities.
* Good understanding of commissioning planning, work permits, purging, blanking, isolation requirements, FAT, SAT, testing, and start-up readiness.
* Practical exposure to coordinating with contractors, vendors, project engineers, inspection teams, commissioning teams, and operations teams.
* Able to review plant operating problems during commissioning and provide sound technical support.
* Experience following project execution schedules and assessing commissioning impact on operations.
* Strong knowledge of safe commissioning practices, site readiness checks, industry standards, and company procedure compliance.
* Ability to coordinate material follow-up, commissioning documentation, worksite audits, and technical closeout activities.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to align multiple teams during time-sensitive commissioning and start-up work.
* Detail-focused and safety-driven approach to project handover, testing completion, permit compliance, and operational readiness.
