Role Context
Process plants require continuous control of temperature, pressure, flow, equipment condition, and product quality. Small deviations can affect production yield, emissions, safety, storage, or export commitments if they are not recognized and corrected promptly.
The Control Room Operator will coordinate field activities and use the Integrated Control System to maintain stable plant performance. Effective communication with operations, maintenance, contractors, and neighboring units will help contain upsets and prevent minor incidents from becoming emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
The role will combine control-panel operation, field coordination, work-permit control, process adjustment, maintenance support, and emergency response.
* Perform assigned operational activities safely and according to Standard Operating Procedures.
* Monitor and control process units responsible for processing, storing, and exporting products.
* Maintain product quality and quantity within approved specifications.
* Maximize plant yield while preventing avoidable hydrocarbon loss.
* Monitor emissions and maintain operations within applicable limits.
* Use all relevant capabilities of the Integrated Control System.
* Observe control panels continuously and diagnose abnormal operating conditions.
* Adjust speeds, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates within authorized limits.
* Coordinate process control during start-ups, shutdowns, and emergency situations.
* Record essential instrument readings and confirm that equipment remains within operating parameters.
* Log operational incidents and review them with the supervisor.
* Supervise or conduct routine equipment inspections for abnormalities.
* Report defects and coordinate servicing or repair requirements.
* Prepare and review equipment for maintenance activities.
* Confirm that isolated equipment remains synchronized with connected plant systems.
* Authorize work permits and monitor ongoing maintenance jobs.
* Observe contractor activities for compliance with safety procedures.
* Operate assigned machinery and equipment according to company standards.
* Verify that process chemicals are suitable for the assigned operating area.
* Prepare chemical solutions and add chemicals according to approved procedures.
* Adjust and monitor chemical-dosing rates.
* Complete integrity functional tests, changeover routines, and scheduled verification activities.
* Maintain accurate records for tests, inspections, permits, and operational changes.
* Control plant upsets and initiate action to prevent escalation.
* Communicate clearly with other departments, plant units, company sites, and neighboring facilities.
* Perform Auxiliary Fireman or Site Safety Officer duties during emergencies when assigned.
* Complete effective shift handovers covering plant status, ongoing work, risks, and outstanding actions.
Ideal Profile
Applicants should hold a relevant technical diploma or a secondary-school certificate supported by an appropriate vocational trade qualification.
A minimum of six years of plant-operations experience within a large industrial facility in the oil and gas industry is required.
The successful candidate should understand process control, Integrated Control Systems, plant start-ups, shutdowns, equipment monitoring, chemical dosing, maintenance preparation, work permits, and emergency response. Strong situational awareness, communication, recordkeeping, decision-making, and HSE discipline are essential. Applicable professional certifications will provide an advantage.
