Position Overview
Operational Excellence Specialist - Process Safety in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy operations role focused on process safety, operational HSE, operating integrity, asset integrity assurance, production performance, and continuous improvement across offshore producing assets. The role supports ADNOC Offshore operational excellence by providing technical advice, assurance, standards implementation, performance monitoring, and process safety expertise to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient asset operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert advice and support on operational excellence, process safety, operational HSE, and operating integrity matters across offshore producing assets.
* Support assurance, continuous improvement, and development of operational and HSE performance across ADNOC Offshore assets.
* Ensure process safety is effectively managed and process safety critical activities are executed according to approved plans.
* Provide technical advice on production enhancement, offshore operations, process safety, operating integrity, and asset integrity management.
* Promote and implement internal and external best practices for integrity management, risk management, and criticality assessment.
* Identify and set leading and lagging integrity KPIs to monitor trends and manage performance.
* Drive implementation of process safety standards, procedures, dashboards, and performance monitoring tools.
* Support assets in implementing process safety standards and managing process safety dashboard requirements.
* Participate in ADNOC Group company forums for group standards, codes of practice, and competency development.
* Represent ADNOC Offshore in operational integrity and operational excellence conferences, technical forums, and external events.
* Provide technical support for development of ADNOC standards and standardization initiatives.
* Own and support implementation of operating integrity standards and alarm management reviews.
* Manage interfaces with business units and working groups on operating integrity requirements.
* Provide consultation on asset integrity and process safety engineering requirements across new project phases including pre-project, design, construction, installation, commissioning, and abandonment.
* Define guidelines and roles for managing operational risk through approved processes.
* Ensure management of change activities related to assets are properly reviewed and associated risks are correctly assessed.
* Promote adoption of process safety management systems, UAE HSE laws, ADNOC HSE requirements, and asset integrity codes of practice.
* Provide process safety input to technical design proposals, operating procedures, and operational excellence initiatives.
* Review and provide technical input for projects, major modifications, and management of change processes.
* Organize, lead, and participate in technical reviews and process safety reviews.
* Ensure loss of primary containment events are identified and control barriers are maintained through barrier effectiveness programs.
* Support implementation of process safety performance indicators across asset operations.
* Deliver lessons learned presentations from major process safety incidents and verify implementation of relevant recommendations.
* Standardize best practices, technical guidelines, policies, systems of work, work processes, procedures, and digital tools across assigned operational excellence areas.
* Support specification, monitoring, reporting, and standardization of operational and process safety performance metrics.
* Stay updated on oil and gas industry best practices and enabling technologies in process safety and operational HSE.
* Evaluate and advise on technical issues related to production and operations to optimize surface production facilities and equipment.
* Support operational and economic optimization of offshore production facilities in line with ADNOC guidelines and objectives.
* Provide governance support for ADNOC Offshore business activities through coordination with internal units and ADNOC Group Companies.
* Identify, evaluate, and endorse new production operation technologies and best practices for implementation.
* Review and analyze production and technical reports submitted by assets and consultants.
* Highlight technical comments and propose recommended actions for management review.
* Analyze and advise on monthly oil, gas, water production, and injection operations, including daily and monthly production reports.
* Participate in shareholder technical audits and follow up on recommended action plans.
* Review quarterly asset performance and support alignment with ADNOC objectives.
* Support ADNOC operating companies in achieving operational excellence through optimization, experience sharing, lessons learned, and practice improvement.
* Ensure compliance with ADNOC HSE policies, procedures, engineering requirements, production standards, and applicable regulations.
* Support implementation of new technologies recommended by management to improve production, facilities, and operational excellence.
* Work closely with concession stakeholders and advise on shortfalls, improvement actions, and way forward.
* Develop new guidelines or update existing guidelines to improve ADNOC Offshore performance.
* Participate in annual divisional planning activities.
* Guide, direct, supervise, train, and develop subordinates to support team performance and UAE National development.
* Participate in junior development programs and competency assurance programs for operations staff.
* Provide input for section and department budgets and support implementation of approved budgets and work plans.
* Implement approved policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures in line with company and international standards.
* Identify process improvements based on ISO standards, operational excellence methods, and oil and gas best practices.
* Provide inputs for section MIS reports, progress reports, and company management updates.
Candidate Requirements
* Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Science, or a relevant discipline with supporting experience.
* Master Degree in Engineering or Science is strongly preferred.
* Minimum 8-9 years of experience in operational excellence, process safety, operating integrity, operational HSE, or related oil and gas disciplines.
* Upstream or downstream oil and gas experience is essential.
* Strong experience addressing technical discipline challenges as an expert, principal engineer, or discipline technical authority is preferred.
* Demonstrated knowledge of process safety, operational HSE, asset integrity, operating integrity, production operations, and offshore asset assurance.
* Experience implementing process safety standards, operating integrity standards, management of change, process safety reviews, and barrier management programs.
* Strong understanding of loss of primary containment events, process safety performance indicators, alarm management, operational risk management, and criticality assessment.
* Ability to provide professional advice and technical direction for design phase and operation phase requirements.
* Experience supporting technical reviews, major modifications, projects, production enhancement, operational excellence programs, and asset performance reviews.
* Strong knowledge of ADNOC standards, codes of practice, UAE HSE requirements, international oil and gas standards, and operational governance.
* Ability to analyze production reports, technical reports, operational trends, and performance metrics.
* Strong strategic thinking, sound judgment, quick decision-making, report writing, and data analysis skills.
* Proven ability to support and influence change across technical, operational, and management stakeholders.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, coaching, and team-building skills.
* Ability to educate, motivate, guide, and develop teams, including UAE Nationals and junior operations staff.
* Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
* Knowledge of Arabic is preferred.
