Role Context
The Plant Operator is responsible for maintaining stable day-to-day operation of assigned process units and supporting safe startup, shutdown and maintenance activities. The position requires close attention to equipment condition, process parameters and operating instructions so that abnormalities can be identified early and corrective action can be coordinated quickly. Through disciplined field operation and strict HSE compliance, the role helps maintain plant availability, product quality and operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate assigned process plant and equipment safely in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
* Carry out routine field inspections and identify abnormal equipment conditions.
* Report defects, unusual vibration, leakage, temperature changes or other operating concerns to the reporting supervisor.
* Coordinate servicing requirements when equipment abnormalities are identified.
* Monitor process variables including temperature, pressure, flow and equipment speed.
* Adjust operating parameters within authorized limits to maintain stable plant conditions.
* Support safe and controlled plant startup and shutdown activities.
* Ensure process changes are synchronized with related equipment and operating units.
* Prepare plant equipment for maintenance in accordance with approved isolation and operating procedures.
* Confirm equipment condition before maintenance handover and support safe return to service after completion.
* Operate related machinery and process equipment according to company instructions and established operating standards.
* Receive process chemicals and verify handling activities are completed according to approved procedures.
* Maintain chemical stock and consumption records accurately.
* Prepare required chemical batches while complying with process and HSE requirements.
* Monitor chemical usage and report abnormal consumption or stock requirements.
* Obtain required work permits and support coordination of permitted activities in assigned areas.
* Follow ongoing maintenance and contractor work to ensure activities remain within approved safety requirements.
* Observe contractor activities and report deviations from established procedures or permit conditions.
* Maintain compliance with applicable safety, quality and environmental management systems.
* Follow instructions issued by supervisors and communicate operating conditions clearly during routine and abnormal situations.
* Participate in emergency response activities when assigned.
* Carry out Auxiliary Fireman or Site Safety Officer responsibilities in accordance with the Facility Response Plan when required.
* Support safe response to plant incidents, alarms and emergency conditions.
* Maintain good housekeeping throughout assigned operating areas.
* Record process and operational information required for shift and management reporting.
* Prepare Key Performance Indicator commitment checklists for management review.
* Coordinate effectively with Operations, Maintenance and HSE personnel to support uninterrupted plant activities.
* Escalate abnormal operating conditions promptly to protect personnel, equipment and production continuity.
Ideal Profile
* Technical Diploma in a relevant technical discipline or Secondary School Certificate.
* Minimum 4 years of plant operations experience within a large industrial facility.
* Previous experience in the Oil and Gas industry is required.
* Practical understanding of process plant operations and field equipment.
* Ability to monitor and interpret pressure, temperature, flow and other process parameters.
* Familiarity with plant startup and shutdown activities.
* Experience preparing equipment for maintenance and supporting safe isolation requirements.
* Working knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and operational instructions.
