Position Overview
Plant Operator - Process Operations in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy hiring opportunity for a technically skilled plant operations professional experienced in safe process monitoring, equipment checks, chemical handling, work permits, shutdown support, start-up activities, and HSE-compliant field operations. This role supports reliable plant performance by ensuring assigned process facilities are operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved operating procedures and company standards.
Role Context
The Plant Operator - Process Operations will support day-to-day running of process plant facilities by monitoring operating conditions, identifying equipment abnormalities, following standard operating procedures, and maintaining safe coordination with supervisors, maintenance teams, contractors, and emergency response personnel. The position contributes directly to plant reliability, production continuity, environmental compliance, and safe execution of operational activities within a large oil and gas facility.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate and monitor process plant equipment and facilities in the assigned area according to approved operating procedures and HSE standards.
* Carry out assigned operational work safely, accurately, and in line with standard operating procedures.
* Perform routine checks on plant equipment to detect abnormalities, defects, leaks, unsafe conditions, or performance deviations.
* Report equipment issues to the supervisor and coordinate follow-up actions for servicing or maintenance.
* Monitor and adjust process variables such as speed, temperature, pressure, and flow rate to support stable plant operations.
* Assist with safe shutdown and start-up activities by following instructions, monitoring process conditions, and supporting operational readiness.
* Prepare plant equipment for maintenance by ensuring proper coordination, isolation support, and readiness of related systems.
* Receive chemicals, maintain stock and consumption records, and prepare chemical batches required for process operations.
* Handle chemicals in accordance with approved procedures, safety rules, and environmental requirements.
* Operate related machinery and equipment safely and efficiently according to company instructions.
* Obtain work permits and monitor ongoing jobs to ensure safe execution within the assigned area.
* Follow up contractor activities and confirm compliance with safety regulations, permit conditions, and site procedures.
* Support emergency response duties as Auxiliary Fireman or Site Safety Officer when required under the facility response plan.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, maintenance teams, and other internal stakeholders to complete duties safely.
* Prepare KPI commitment checklists and operational updates for management review.
* Implement relevant functional policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures to achieve operational objectives.
* Support on-the-job training activities linked to competency-based training programs and UAE National development.
* Identify practical improvement opportunities in operating procedures, housekeeping, reporting, and field work processes.
* Participate in emergency response activities as a team member when required.
* Maintain clean and tidy work areas before, during, and after operations in line with hygiene and housekeeping standards.
* Provide inputs for section progress reports, KPI checklists, and management information updates.
Ideal Profile
* Technical Diploma in a relevant field or Secondary School Certificate.
* Minimum 4 years of experience in plant operations within a large industrial plant.
* Oil and gas industry experience is required.
* Practical knowledge of process plant operations, field monitoring, standard operating procedures, and equipment surveillance.
* Ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions and report defects clearly and quickly.
* Experience supporting start-up, shutdown, routine operations, maintenance preparation, and process adjustments.
* Familiarity with work permit systems, contractor monitoring, and safe job execution practices.
* Understanding of chemical receiving, batch preparation, stock register control, and safe chemical handling.
* Knowledge of HSE procedures, emergency response responsibilities, housekeeping standards, and environmental compliance.
* Ability to carry out Auxiliary Fireman or Site Safety Officer duties during emergencies when assigned.
* Strong communication, discipline, observation, teamwork, and instruction-following skills.
* Ability to work in an A/C environment with occasional exposure to heat, humidity, dust, and plant site conditions.
