Position Overview
Plant Operator - Process Operations in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy hiring opportunity for an experienced field operations professional who can safely operate and monitor process plant facilities according to standard operating procedures, HSE controls, and production requirements. This role is suitable for candidates with hands-on exposure to plant equipment checks, process variable monitoring, chemical handling, work permit follow-up, contractor activity monitoring, emergency response duties, and safe plant housekeeping.
Role Context
The Plant Operator - Process Operations supports reliable daily plant performance by keeping process equipment under continuous observation, reporting abnormalities quickly, and helping supervisors maintain safe, stable, and compliant operating conditions. The position contributes to production continuity, maintenance readiness, safety performance, environmental responsibility, and operational discipline across assigned plant areas within a large oil and gas facility.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate and monitor assigned process plant equipment and facilities in line with approved operating procedures and company HSE standards.
* Carry out operational tasks safely, accurately, and according to standard operating procedures.
* Perform routine field checks to identify abnormalities, defects, leaks, unusual readings, unsafe conditions, or equipment performance concerns.
* Report equipment defects to the supervisor and coordinate follow-up actions for servicing, maintenance, or further inspection.
* Monitor and adjust process conditions including speeds, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates to support safe start-up, shutdown, and normal operations.
* Prepare plant equipment for maintenance by supporting isolation readiness, operational coordination, and synchronization with related equipment.
* Receive chemicals, maintain stock and consumption registers, and prepare chemical batches required for plant processes.
* Follow approved chemical handling procedures and comply with all relevant safety, environmental, and HSE rules.
* Operate related machinery and equipment safely and efficiently according to company standards and supervisor instructions.
* Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls.
* Obtain work permits and monitor ongoing jobs in the assigned area to support safe job execution.
* Follow up contractor activities and verify adherence to permit conditions, safety regulations, and site procedures.
* Carry out assigned duties as Auxiliary Fireman or Site Safety Officer during emergencies when required under the facility response plan.
* Communicate effectively with the supervisor and follow operational instructions to complete duties safely and efficiently.
* Prepare KPI commitment checklists and operational updates for management review.
* Implement relevant functional policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures to meet operational objectives.
* Support on-the-job training activities linked to competency-based training programs and UAE Nationalization requirements.
* Identify practical improvement opportunities in operating procedures, field practices, reporting, housekeeping, and work processes.
* Participate in emergency response duties as a team member when required.
* Keep the work area clean and organized before, during, and after operations in line with hygiene and housekeeping standards.
* Provide inputs for section progress reports, KPI checklists, and management information updates.
* Coordinate with line managers, peers, internal teams, consultants, third-party service providers, and government agencies when required.
Ideal Profile
* Technical Diploma in a relevant field or Secondary School Certificate.
* Minimum 4 years of experience in plant operations within a large industrial plant.
* Oil and gas industry experience is required.
* Practical knowledge of process plant operations, standard operating procedures, field monitoring, and safe equipment operation.
* Ability to conduct routine equipment checks and recognize abnormal conditions during plant rounds.
* Experience supporting start-up, shutdown, process adjustments, equipment preparation, and maintenance readiness activities.
* Understanding of work permit systems, contractor activity monitoring, and safe job follow-up in plant environments.
* Knowledge of chemical receiving, stock tracking, chemical batch preparation, and safe chemical handling practices.
* Awareness of HSE procedures, emergency response requirements, environmental controls, and housekeeping standards.
* Ability to support Auxiliary Fireman or Site Safety Officer duties during emergency situations when assigned.
* Strong communication, observation, teamwork, discipline, and instruction-following skills.
* Ability to work mainly in an A/C environment with occasional exposure to heat, humidity, dust, and outdoor plant conditions.
