Role Context
The Principal Piping Designer is responsible for delivering accurate and efficient piping layouts and plant design solutions that support project execution, safety, and operational performance. This role ensures that 3D models, plot plans, and piping deliverables are fully coordinated with engineering disciplines and meet project standards. The position plays a key role in improving constructability, minimizing clashes, and supporting successful fabrication and installation outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform piping design and engineering for process facilities during Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design stages
* Develop 3D plant models and ensure clash-free design coordination with all engineering disciplines
* Prepare and approve plot plans, piping layouts, and design drawings in line with project specifications and company procedures
* Lead design teams to complete assigned work within planned schedules and budget targets
* Coordinate discipline interfaces and ensure inter-discipline design requirements are addressed effectively
* Support Lead Piping Engineer in tracking project progress, productivity, and design deliverables
* Organize and manage 3D model reviews while ensuring review comments are properly closed
* Maintain full understanding of project scope, schedules, specifications, and multidisciplinary requirements
* Prepare plant layout narratives and support piping scope development according to agreed project requirements
* Identify design issues early and initiate corrective actions and scope change notifications when required
* Attend project kickoff meetings, design reviews, vendor meetings, and technical coordination sessions
* Guide and supervise junior designers while supporting remote and multi-office project execution environments
* Ensure compliance with client standards, statutory codes, and company health and safety policies
Ideal Profile
* Strong experience in piping design for oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical, or industrial facility projects
* Proven expertise in plant layout development and 3D modeling for large EPC projects
* Strong understanding of piping design standards, constructability, and operational efficiency
* Experience working in Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design project environments
* Ability to lead piping design teams and coordinate across engineering disciplines
* Excellent communication and technical problem-solving skills
* Experience with multi-office project execution and remote team coordination is highly valued
