Role Context
The Principal Piping Engineer leads piping engineering activities that directly impact project safety, constructability, cost efficiency, and operational performance. This role ensures piping systems are designed in full compliance with international codes, project requirements, and client standards while supporting multidisciplinary coordination and successful fabrication execution across offshore and onshore developments.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed piping design analysis according to project scope of work, design basis, standards, and company procedures
* Prepare detailed design calculations, engineering reports, technical analyses, and piping procedures
* Lead technical problem-solving for complex piping challenges and recommend innovative engineering solutions
* Manage discipline priorities, work schedules, and resource planning to meet project objectives and delivery timelines
* Apply strong focus on health and safety policies across all piping engineering activities
* Direct medium and large engineering and design teams when acting as Lead Engineer for assigned project scopes
* Lead piping discipline execution including scope management, deliverables, manpower planning, and schedule control
* Ensure discipline interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified and properly coordinated
* Represent the piping discipline during meetings with clients, project teams, auditors, certifying authorities, and third parties
* Coordinate with internal departments and High-Value Engineering Centers to ensure smooth execution and clear scope understanding
* Prepare ISO curves aligned with Level 3 project schedules and piping execution requirements
* Review piping budgets and provide discipline input for the Project Execution Plan
* Support 3D model reviews at 30 percent, 60 percent, and 90 percent project milestones
* Review and approve piping design philosophies, specifications, pipe supports, MTOs, standard detail drawings, and material requisitions
* Monitor KPI performance and implement corrective actions where required
* Lead piping discipline participation during internal and external project audits
* Support proposals, studies, and performance evaluations for piping team members
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline
* Strong experience in piping engineering for oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical, or offshore EPC projects
* Deep expertise in conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, and piping system execution
* Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and discipline deliverables on large projects
* Strong knowledge of project execution planning, cost control, schedule management, and multidisciplinary coordination
* Experience with 3D model reviews, material take-offs, and piping material management
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills for client-facing discussions and technical leadership
* Strong analytical thinking and decision-making ability for complex engineering challenges
