Role Context
The Principal Piping Engineer is responsible for leading piping engineering strategy, technical design integrity, and multidisciplinary coordination throughout the project lifecycle. This role ensures piping systems are designed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project standards, operational requirements, and international codes. The position directly supports fabrication readiness, cost control, and successful project execution across large-scale offshore and onshore facilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed piping design analysis according to project scope, design basis, standards, and company procedures
* Prepare detailed engineering calculations, design reports, technical procedures, and analysis documents
* Lead technical solutions for complex piping challenges and provide innovative recommendations for non-standard project situations
* Manage engineering schedules, priorities, and resource planning to ensure timely project delivery
* Apply strong focus on health and safety policies across all discipline engineering activities
* Direct medium and large engineering teams when acting as Lead Engineer for assigned project scopes
* Lead piping discipline execution including deliverables, manpower planning, budget control, and schedule management
* Ensure interfaces between engineering disciplines are clearly identified and coordinated
* Represent the piping discipline during meetings with clients, project teams, certifying authorities, auditors, and third parties
* Coordinate with other departments and High-Value Engineering Centers to ensure smooth project execution
* Prepare ISO curves and discipline planning aligned with project Level 3 schedules
* Support 3D model reviews at 30 percent, 60 percent, and 90 percent project progress stages
* Review and approve piping philosophies, specifications, pipe supports, MTOs, standard detail drawings, and material requisitions
* Monitor KPI performance and implement corrective actions where required
* Lead piping discipline participation during internal and external project audits
* Support proposals, feasibility studies, and performance evaluations of piping team members
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline
* Strong experience in piping engineering for oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical, or offshore EPC projects
* Deep knowledge of conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, and piping design standards
* Proven leadership experience managing medium to large engineering and design teams
* Strong understanding of project execution planning, cost control, and discipline scheduling
* Experience with 3D model reviews, MTO preparation, and piping material management
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills for client-facing and multidisciplinary coordination
* Strong problem-solving ability with strategic decision-making in complex engineering environments
