Role Context
The Production Engineer supports the conversion of engineering information into efficient fabrication and construction execution. The role focuses on constructability, work sequencing, material readiness, production planning, progress monitoring, and shop-floor coordination to keep fabrication activities aligned with project requirements.
By identifying drawing constraints, material shortages, planning gaps, and productivity concerns early, the engineer helps protect schedule performance and supports smoother execution across fabrication yards and offshore construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Review project scope of work, specifications, schedules, and deliverables to understand fabrication and construction requirements.
* Prepare detailed scopes of work and task listings for assigned production activities.
* Review fabrication schedules and recommend corrections or adjustments to the planning team where required.
* Assess engineering drawings for constructability and identify special fabrication, material, or subcontract requirements.
* Review monthly material reports and highlight shortages, late deliveries, or other issues that may affect production.
* Check material requisitions before purchase to confirm suitability for fabrication requirements.
* Review material grades, plate sizing assumptions, and quantities against project specifications.
* Raise site queries where available material can potentially be used through approved substitutions.
* Provide technical guidance to fabrication teams and ensure execution remains aligned with company specifications.
* Attend production meetings and communicate concerns related to schedule, materials, drawings, work fronts, or productivity.
* Monitor scope changes and track associated production revision orders.
* Prepare weekly fabrication progress reports.
* Monitor production man-hours and compare actual productivity against planned performance.
* Review four-week look-ahead schedules and identify constraints involving materials, drawings, resources, or work sequencing.
* Coordinate with Construction Engineers to ensure procedures are issued on time and understood by all affected teams.
* Communicate approved procedural or scope changes to relevant fabrication and construction personnel.
* Coordinate subcontract work scopes and ensure required interfaces are properly managed.
* Review as-built drawings to verify final fabrication and construction status.
* Coordinate movement of materials within fabrication yards to support planned work fronts.
* Work closely with shop-floor and erection planning teams to maintain alignment with the approved project schedule.
* Approve applicable fabrication drawings within assigned authority.
* Review Work Pack deliverables against the approved Work Pack Index.
* Identify fabrication bottlenecks and support practical corrective actions.
* Coordinate with material control and planning teams to improve readiness for upcoming work.
* Support resolution of technical and production issues that could affect quality, schedule, or productivity.
* Maintain clear communication between engineering, construction, planning, and fabrication personnel throughout execution.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s Degree in Engineering.
* 3+ years of relevant experience in oil and gas with a major contractor, consultant, fabrication yard, or construction organization.
* Practical understanding of offshore fabrication and construction activities.
* Familiarity with API RP2A requirements.
* Working knowledge of AISC standards.
* Understanding of AWS codes and welding-related fabrication requirements.
* Able to review fabrication drawings, work packs, production schedules, and material reports.
* Good understanding of constructability principles and fabrication sequencing.
* Experience monitoring progress, man-hours, productivity, and short-term look-ahead plans.
* Familiarity with material requisitions, substitutions, and fabrication material control.
