The Rig Superintendent
will provide operational leadership across development drilling activities and ensure rig crews, equipment, contractors, and supporting resources operate in accordance with drilling plans and safety requirements. The position has a direct impact on well delivery, equipment availability, crew productivity, operating cost, and HSE performance. Strong field judgment is essential for resolving operational issues quickly while maintaining safe drilling conditions and dependable rig performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Direct day-to-day development drilling activities and ensure safe operation of the rig, worksite, equipment, and personnel.
* Supervise rig crews, establish work priorities, allocate responsibilities, and maintain operational discipline across shifts.
* Coordinate rig erection, dismantling, mobilization, demobilization, and rig-moving activities.
* Monitor drilling progress against approved programs, operational targets, and planned well objectives.
* Maintain strong oversight of well control requirements and ensure drilling crews follow established procedures.
* Review rig condition and equipment performance while ensuring maintenance requirements are identified and addressed promptly.
* Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment failures and unplanned operational downtime.
* Ensure appropriate availability of manpower, drilling tools, fuel, water, consumables, and other site resources.
* Evaluate drilling and wellbore performance and identify operational issues that could affect safety, cost, or schedule.
* Work closely with Operations Managers, drilling superintendents, clients, contractors, and service companies to maintain smooth field execution.
* Investigate incidents, injuries, equipment failures, and operational events and prepare accurate reports with corrective actions.
* Maintain drilling reports covering progress, rig condition, equipment requirements, downtime, and outstanding operational concerns.
* Identify practical opportunities to improve drilling efficiency, reduce non-productive time, and control operating costs.
* Ensure activities comply with company HSE policies, approved procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
* Support workforce training, competency assessment, succession planning, and development of rig personnel.
* Maintain appropriate security arrangements for personnel, equipment, materials, and company assets at the worksite.
Ideal Profile
* Proven supervisory-level experience in drilling and rig operations.
* Strong background in land-based development drilling environments.
* Practical experience managing drilling crews and coordinating multidisciplinary field teams.
* Detailed knowledge of drilling equipment, well control, rig systems, operating procedures, and field practices.
* Demonstrated ability to manage rig maintenance programs and preventive maintenance schedules.
