Role Context
The Rig Superintendent provides
field leadership across development drilling operations, coordinating personnel, equipment, maintenance, logistics, contractors, and operational priorities. The position has a direct impact on drilling progress, well integrity, equipment reliability, non-productive time, operating cost, and workforce safety. Sound operational judgment is essential for maintaining continuity during demanding drilling programs and resolving field issues without compromising HSE or well control requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Direct daily development drilling operations and maintain safe working conditions across the rig and associated worksite.
* Supervise rig crews, assign operational priorities, coordinate shifts, and ensure personnel understand their responsibilities.
* Plan rig erection, dismantling, mobilization, demobilization, and location-to-location rig moves.
* Monitor drilling progress against well programs, operational schedules, and performance targets.
* Maintain rigorous oversight of well control practices and ensure crews follow approved drilling procedures.
* Inspect rig condition and monitor the reliability and performance of critical drilling equipment.
* Coordinate preventive maintenance activities and maintenance schedules to reduce equipment failures and operational downtime.
* Arrange manpower, drilling tools, fuel, water, consumables, and other resources required for uninterrupted field operations.
* Evaluate drilling and wellbore results to identify performance issues and emerging operational risks.
* Review equipment requirements and resolve problems that could affect drilling continuity, safety, or well delivery.
* Coordinate closely with Operations Managers, Superintendents, clients, contractors, service providers, and site personnel.
* Investigate incidents, accidents, injuries, equipment failures, and operational events and ensure appropriate reporting and follow-up.
* Prepare accurate operational reports covering drilling progress, equipment status, resource requirements, downtime, and field issues.
* Identify practical measures to improve drilling efficiency, reduce non-productive time, and control operating costs.
* Enforce company HSE policies, work procedures, security requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
* Support training, competency development, performance improvement, and effective deployment of rig personnel.
* Protect personnel, drilling equipment, materials, and company assets through appropriate safety and security controls.
* Support compliance with applicable Saudi drilling, HSE, logistics, immigration, and employee-relations requirements when operations fall within Saudi jurisdiction.
