Role Context
The Senior Coating Inspector - Pipeline Protection will be responsible for inspecting painting, coating, pipe coating, and field joint protection activities across oil and gas project environments. The role is important for ensuring long-term asset protection, corrosion resistance, coating integrity, and compliance with approved procedures before project acceptance or handover.
This position supports reliable project delivery by combining coating inspection expertise, surface preparation review, paint specification knowledge, non-destructive testing awareness, health and safety compliance, quality control, and accurate technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect coating, painting, pipe coating, and field joint inspection activities for oil and gas project requirements.
* Review surface preparation, coating application, paint systems, curing conditions, and final coating quality against approved specifications.
* Inspect 3LPP coating, concrete coating, and field joint coating work where required by project scope.
* Check coating thickness, adhesion, surface profile, cleanliness, environmental conditions, defects, repairs, and acceptance criteria.
* Verify that coating activities follow approved procedures, inspection test plans, quality standards, and client requirements.
* Identify coating defects, surface preparation issues, application problems, corrosion risks, and non-compliance items.
* Support corrosion protection quality by ensuring coating systems are applied and inspected correctly.
* Prepare inspection reports, coating records, test results, punch lists, corrective action notes, and supporting documentation.
* Coordinate with coating applicators, QA-QC teams, project engineers, supervisors, safety personnel, and client representatives.
* Apply health and safety regulations during coating, painting, surface preparation, and inspection activities.
* Support project management requirements by tracking inspection progress, pending items, and documentation closeout.
* Maintain strong inspection discipline while ensuring coating work is completed with accuracy, safety, and quality focus.
Ideal Profile
* Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
* 15-16 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
* Minimum 5 years of specialized experience in pipe coating and field joint inspection.
* Practical experience with 3LPP coating and concrete coating is required.
* BGAS Grade 2 or NACE Level 2 certification is required or strongly preferred.
* Strong knowledge of corrosion protection, coating application, surface preparation, and paint specifications.
* Good understanding of coating types, inspection standards, NDT techniques, and quality control procedures.
* Ability to identify coating defects and prepare accurate inspection documentation.
* Strong attention to detail with practical knowledge of health and safety regulations.
* Good communication skills for coordination with contractors, QA-QC teams, clients, and project stakeholders.
* Ability to work in demanding oil and gas project environments with disciplined quality and safety focus.
