Role Context
The Senior Commissioning Engineer plays a key role in bringing project systems from installed condition to tested, operational, and performance-ready status. The position supports both home office planning and site execution, helping ensure that commissioning procedures, spares, consumables, manuals, punch lists, and system checks are prepared and controlled. Through close coordination with project stakeholders, the role helps remove technical barriers, improve start-up reliability, reduce commissioning delays, and strengthen the quality of final system turnover.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Commissioning Manager and Principal Commissioning Engineer in preparing home office commissioning deliverables.
* Participate in site walk-down inspections to verify system condition, installation status, commissioning readiness, and remaining work.
* Assist with punch listing activities and follow up on items that affect system completion, testing, commissioning, or start-up.
* Support testing and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components during site commissioning work.
* Work collaboratively with project teams and client representatives to maintain effective communication and practical issue resolution.
* Assist in developing operation and maintenance manuals required for system handover and operational readiness.
* Support commissioning and start-up spares development for assigned systems and project packages.
* Help prepare first fills, consumables lists, and related requirements needed for safe commissioning execution.
* Develop, review, and assist with commissioning and start-up procedures.
* Perform discipline equipment system checks and tests according to approved project procedures.
* Support functional testing of mechanical, electrical, and instrument systems.
* Participate in commissioning, start-up, and performance testing activities for assigned work scopes.
* Resolve operational and maintenance issues discovered during commissioning, start-up, and performance test phases.
* Supervise craft personnel supporting site pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
* Coordinate work with other commissioning engineers to keep daily activities aligned with project priorities.
* Liaise with discipline lead engineers, project engineers, construction teams, fabrication teams, completions specialists, designers, and operations and maintenance personnel.
* Ensure commissioning activities follow project guidelines, company policies, safety expectations, and approved procedures.
* Communicate project requirements and technical expectations clearly to engineers, non-engineers, craft teams, and client stakeholders.
* Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, test records, punch list status, issue logs, and handover information.
* Support assignments to construction sites and international project locations when required.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
* 8-15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor, consultant, EPC company, or project delivery organization.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a chemical, refinery, oil and gas processing, or similar industrial facility.
* At least 2 years of commissioning and start-up experience in the chemical, refinery, or oil and gas industry is preferred.
* Strong understanding of commissioning, completions, start-up, training, construction, operations, and maintenance concepts.
* Practical experience with walk-down inspections, punch lists, equipment checks, functional testing, troubleshooting, and performance testing.
* Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems used in process and energy facilities.
* Ability to use industry knowledge to improve commissioning effectiveness and system readiness.
* Strong communication skills for explaining technical solutions to engineers and non-engineers.
* Good computer software skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to support multiple discipline groups and changing project priorities.
* Ability to assess project requirements and communicate expectations in a clear, positive, and productive manner.
* Willing and able to travel to construction sites and international project locations when assigned.
* Proficiency in written and spoken English.
* Multi-language skills are an advantage.
