Role Context
The Senior Commissioning Engineer supports the transition of systems from construction completion to operational readiness by ensuring all equipment and processes are tested, verified, and handed over safely. This role helps minimize start-up risks, improve plant performance, and ensure production targets are achieved through effective commissioning planning and execution across complex energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Report to the Commissioning Manager and support the Principal Commissioning Engineer with preparation of commissioning home office deliverables
* Participate in walk-down inspections, punch listing, and readiness verification for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems
* Support commissioning teams with discipline equipment checks, testing, and system validation activities
* Develop and maintain operation and maintenance manuals for project handover and operational use
* Prepare commissioning and start-up spares planning along with first fills and consumables requirements
* Assist in developing commissioning procedures and start-up procedures for utility and process systems
* Perform function testing of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems to verify operational readiness
* Participate in commissioning, start-up, and performance testing to ensure facilities meet production and operational objectives
* Troubleshoot operational and maintenance issues during commissioning and start-up phases
* Supervise craft personnel involved in pre-commissioning and commissioning site activities
* Coordinate closely with commissioning engineers, construction teams, and client representatives to maintain project progress
* Maintain strong collaboration across the project team to support safe and efficient execution
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering
* Minimum 8 years of experience in oil and gas commissioning projects with major contractors or consultants
* Strong knowledge of commissioning, completions, and plant start-up activities for refinery, chemical, or oil and gas facilities
* Experience working across plant operations, maintenance, and construction interfaces
* Strong understanding of punch-list management, mechanical completion, and system handover processes
* Proven troubleshooting ability for resolving technical and operational issues during start-up
* Excellent communication skills for working with engineers, operators, and client stakeholders
* Ability to work effectively in demanding site environments and international project locations
