Role Context
The Senior Commissioning Engineer supports the safe and efficient transition of project systems from construction completion to full operational readiness. This role is responsible for system testing, troubleshooting, commissioning procedures, and performance validation to ensure facilities meet production targets and operational standards. The position is critical in reducing start-up risks and ensuring reliable plant performance from day one.
Key Responsibilities
* Report to the Commissioning Manager and support the Principal Commissioning Engineer with home office commissioning deliverables
* Participate in site walk-down inspections, punch listing, and system readiness verification activities
* Support commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems across project phases
* Develop and maintain operation and maintenance manuals for final handover
* Prepare commissioning and start-up spares plans, first fills, and consumables requirements
* Assist in preparing commissioning procedures and start-up plans for utility and process systems
* Perform discipline equipment checks, functional testing, and system validation activities
* Participate in commissioning, plant start-up, and performance testing to ensure operational targets are achieved
* Troubleshoot operational and maintenance issues during commissioning and start-up stages
* Supervise craft personnel involved in pre-commissioning and commissioning site activities
* Coordinate closely with other commissioning engineers, construction teams, and client representatives
* Maintain strong collaboration across the project team to support safe and efficient project delivery
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering
* Minimum 8 years of experience in oil and gas commissioning projects with major contractors or consultants
* Strong knowledge of commissioning, completions, and start-up processes for refinery, chemical, or oil and gas facilities
* Experience working in plant operations, construction interfaces, and maintenance coordination
* Strong understanding of system testing, punch-list management, and mechanical completion activities
* Excellent problem-solving ability for resolving operational and technical issues during start-up
* Strong communication skills for working with engineers, operators, and client stakeholders
* Ability to work effectively in dynamic site environments and international project locations
