Role Context
The Senior Corrosion Engineer is responsible for protecting operational assets from corrosion-related risks by providing technical leadership across inspection, monitoring, and material selection programs. The role strengthens plant integrity, reduces operational downtime, and supports safe hydrocarbon production through proactive corrosion prevention and fitness-for-purpose evaluations.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement corrosion monitoring, control, and mitigation strategies for pipelines, downhole equipment, production facilities, and export systems
* Provide technical expertise to operations teams on cathodic protection, internal corrosion monitoring, coatings, material preservation, and metallurgy performance
* Support the development and maintenance of company-wide Corrosion and Inspection Management System (CIMS) and related procedures
* Evaluate plant and component fitness for purpose and recommend corrective actions for corrosion-related degradation
* Review material specifications and design proposals for new and modified facilities to ensure effective corrosion protection systems are in place
* Advise on material selection, corrosion monitoring devices, coating systems, and inspection methodologies
* Participate in contractor evaluation processes by reviewing inspection proposals and recommending suitable service providers
* Monitor corrosion protection activities through field reviews, data analysis, and operational reports to ensure corrosion levels remain within acceptable industry limits
* Investigate abnormal corrosion rates and implement corrective actions to reduce integrity risks and prevent recurrence
* Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis for corrosion and metallurgical failures
* Audit ongoing corrosion control programs and recommend cost-effective improvements and modern inspection technologies
* Coordinate special testing programs such as pigging operations and cathodic protection system evaluations
* Liaise with internal engineering teams to update corrosion standards, inspection philosophies, and contract frameworks
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Metallurgy, or related engineering discipline
* Minimum 8 years of experience in corrosion control and mitigation within the oil and gas production industry
* At least 5 years in a supervisory or senior engineering role related to corrosion engineering
* Strong knowledge of corrosion mechanisms, inspection methods, and materials performance in upstream and downstream operations
* Experience in cathodic protection systems, internal corrosion monitoring, and coating technologies
* Familiarity with asset integrity management and fitness-for-service assessments
* Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for failure investigation and mitigation planning
* Excellent technical reporting and stakeholder coordination abilities
