This role converts laboratory results, operating records and process data into technical recommendations that improve unit stability and resource utilization.
The Senior Engineer - Process Engineering also connects routine plant troubleshooting with long-term optimization. Through simulation, performance monitoring and multidisciplinary studies, the position helps remove production constraints, reduce unnecessary chemical and energy consumption and improve the commercial performance of plant assets.
Key Responsibilities
The position provides process engineering support across daily operations, performance improvement, process control, safety studies and capital projects.
* Review laboratory test reports, operating log sheets and daily plant activity records.
* Identify process abnormalities, evaluate their operational impact and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
* Collect monthly production and operating data from relevant plant units.
* Evaluate unit efficiency based on production output, chemical consumption and energy utilization.
* Prepare detailed technical reports that support operational and management decisions.
* Analyze changing production plans and feedstock conditions to determine whether technical modifications are required.
* Assess process constraints associated with proposed operating changes.
* Develop safe and practical recommendations for adapting plant conditions to revised production requirements.
* Plan and coordinate performance test runs for individual units and integrated plant systems.
* Analyze test results to determine actual equipment and process performance.
* Establish optimum operating parameters based on verified plant data.
* Identify process bottlenecks that restrict throughput, yield or operating stability.
* Recommend modifications or operating adjustments that can increase production capacity.
* Participate in HAZOP studies for proposed plant modifications and operational changes.
* Contribute process engineering expertise during HAZID and SIL assessment sessions.
* Support risk assessments and ensure process hazards are addressed before modifications are implemented.
* Develop process-monitoring tools for plant performance analysis and yield prediction.
* Apply computer simulation models to evaluate operating scenarios and optimization opportunities.

* Participate in Root Cause Analysis studies involving process disruptions, equipment failures and operating incidents.
* Support incident investigations by reviewing process trends, operating conditions and control-system responses.
* Prepare analytical reports describing findings, contributing factors and recommended corrective actions.
* Assist with the development and implementation of mitigation plans.
* Provide technical assistance to Instrumentation, Maintenance, Inspection and other plant functions.
* Support the Plant Alarm Management System and related performance-improvement activities.
* Participate in alarm rationalization meetings and evaluate alarm priorities, limits and operating relevance.
* Review and update process engineering information within the Master Alarm Database.
* Support the implementation, monitoring and effective utilization of Advanced Process Control.
* Evaluate existing APC performance and recommend improvements or revamping requirements.
* Assist with Control Loop Performance Monitoring and analyze underperforming process control loops.
* Provide process engineering input for the effective operation of Distributed Control System controllers.
* Support Real Time Optimization design, engineering, implementation and maintenance activities.
* Help ensure that high-end optimization software is used effectively to improve commercial plant performance.
* Develop and maintain methods for automating, monitoring and reporting process safety key performance indicators.
* Provide process engineering support to projects from conceptual development through final implementation.
* Review project concepts, design bases and process engineering deliverables.
* Examine process drawings, technical documents and P and IDs for accuracy and compliance.
* Provide structured comments and technical feedback on engineering documents.
* Confirm that project deliverables conform to company requirements, operating needs and applicable standards.
* Conduct feasibility studies for plant improvements, modifications and optimization opportunities.
* Compare alternative technical solutions and identify cost-efficient implementation approaches.
* Monitor energy performance at unit level and identify unusual consumption patterns.
* Initiate improvement measures when energy performance falls below established targets.
* Review process engineering deliverables for new and ongoing major projects.
* Evaluate proposed plant modifications and improvement studies before approval or implementation.
* Verify that process changes are correctly incorporated into operating procedures and technical documentation.
* Support commissioning, performance verification and post-implementation review of modified systems.
* Maintain accurate records of calculations, studies, operating recommendations and completed technical reviews.
* Plan, supervise and coordinate process engineering activities within the assigned area.
* Allocate technical work according to plant priorities, employee capability and project requirements.
* Train and develop assigned personnel in process analysis, simulation, safety studies and performance monitoring.
* Promote compliance with HSE requirements throughout studies, testing, troubleshooting and project activities.
Ideal Profile
This position requires an experienced process engineer who can interpret complex plant data and translate findings into realistic operating improvements. The preferred candidate will understand gas processing operations and be comfortable working across production, instrumentation, maintenance, inspection and project teams.
Candidates should possess:
* Bachelor\'s degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification.
* At least six years of process or design engineering experience within a large industrial organization.
* Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is strongly preferred.
* Practical knowledge of gas extraction and processing plant operations.
* Strong understanding of process equipment specifications and operating requirements.
* Experience developing and reviewing Process Flow Diagrams and P and IDs.
* Proficiency in process simulation and design engineering software.
* Working knowledge of Aspen HYSYS, HTRI, PI and LIMS or comparable systems.
* Familiarity with Corporate Plant Information Management Systems and plant-monitoring tools.
* Experience participating in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and other process hazard assessments.
* Working knowledge of Advanced Process Control and alarm management systems.
* Familiarity with Control Loop Performance Monitoring and Real Time Optimization.
* Ability to perform process engineering calculations and establish performance-monitoring programs.
* Knowledge of relevant engineering codes, technical standards and HSE practices.
