Role Context
The Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer is responsible for delivering robust instrumentation and automation solutions that support operational reliability, plant safety, and production efficiency. This role manages engineering design, technical reviews, control philosophies, and vendor coordination to ensure instrumentation systems meet project specifications, process requirements, and international safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform conceptual, FEED, studies, and detailed engineering design for instrumentation and control systems based on project specifications and standards
* Prepare detailed design calculations, technical reports, engineering procedures, and discipline design documentation
* Develop automation system definitions including system philosophies, architecture, specifications, and safety drawings
* Prepare and review ESD logic, fire and gas logic, cause and effect diagrams, and process safety documentation
* Prepare and review specifications, datasheets, and spare parts lists for instrumentation and control equipment
* Support P&ID development and markups based on vendor inputs and project design requirements
* Review instrumentation equipment testing procedures and participate in FAT activities when required
* Assist in closing HAZOP action items and support process safety compliance across project execution
* Coordinate with all engineering disciplines to ensure clash-free and fully integrated design solutions
* Support procurement activities including requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor reviews, and purchase recommendations
* Review vendor and subcontractor submissions to ensure compliance with customer and project specifications
* Provide technical support for fabrication queries, defect rectification, and installation challenges
* Participate in internal, client, and third-party technical audits and support approval processes
* Guide junior engineers and designers while supporting discipline procedures, standards, and engineering calculations
* Lead small projects or act as area lead with responsibility for engineering deliverables, work hours, progress, and discipline coordination
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, or a relevant Engineering discipline
* Strong experience in oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical, or offshore EPC projects
* Deep knowledge of instrumentation systems, process control, automation, and safety systems
* Experience with FEED, detailed engineering, and multidisciplinary project execution
* Strong understanding of ESD systems, F and G systems, FAT processes, and HAZOP support
* Experience managing vendor documentation, procurement support, and technical bid evaluations
* Strong planning and analytical skills with focus on quality, deadlines, and cost awareness
* Excellent communication and leadership skills for client coordination and team guidance
