Role Context
The Senior Principal Engineer for Welding and Field Joint Coating Equipment is responsible for leading the preparation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and deployment of specialized pipeline equipment used in offshore and onshore construction. This role ensures welding and coating systems perform reliably in harsh marine environments while supporting project readiness, industrialization, commissioning, and operational excellence across subsea pipeline developments.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead maintenance, preparation, troubleshooting, and deployment of advanced welding and FJC equipment for offshore and onshore pipeline applications
* Define safe, reliable, and robust equipment solutions suitable for harsh marine and fabrication environments
* Manage automatic welding GMAW pipeline equipment for offshore pipelay operations including S-lay and J-lay installations
* Oversee operation and maintenance of ILUC systems, Pipe Facing Machines, induction coils, blasting systems, and demagnetization equipment
* Support field joint coating systems including FBE, IMPU, IMPP, and induction FJC coil technologies
* Coordinate installation, commissioning, and operational readiness of pipeline equipment across project sites
* Provide technical leadership for integration of joining processes with automated and mechanized systems
* Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, fabrication teams, and project engineers to improve equipment performance and delivery reliability
* Drive industrialization improvements and contribute to technology roadmaps focused on safety, quality, and cost efficiency
* Support offshore pipeline installation campaigns and provide technical solutions during equipment challenges
* Ensure all welding and FJC systems comply with project standards, client requirements, and operational safety policies
* Lead engineering teams and mentor technical personnel involved in welding and pipeline equipment execution
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is mandatory
* Minimum 15 years of experience in offshore pipeline equipment, welding systems, and Field Joint Coating operations
* Strong expertise in automatic GMAW welding systems and offshore pipelay installation including S-lay and J-lay
* Hands-on experience with ILUC, Pipe Facing Machines, induction coils, blasting equipment, and demagnetization systems
* Strong technical knowledge of FBE, IMPU, IMPP, and advanced Field Joint Coating systems
* Proven leadership ability with experience managing teams and major offshore execution scopes
* Strong organizational skills with attention to technical detail and operational reliability
* Willingness to relocate to Jebel Ali and support site-based project operations
