Role Context
The Senior Principal HSE Engineer is responsible for leading advanced fire protection and safety engineering across high-value oil and gas projects. This role directly influences design integrity, risk reduction, and project safety performance by managing technical decisions, safety studies, compliance strategies, and engineering execution. The position supports safe project delivery, protects operational assets, and ensures full alignment with global HSE and fire protection standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed design analysis based on project specifications, codes, standards, and design basis requirements
* Lead fire protection and safety engineering activities for assigned project scopes within budget and schedule targets
* Prepare, review, and approve fire protection philosophies, HSE design basis, technical specifications, and safety engineering reports
* Coordinate and lead HAZID, HAZOP, and other safety workshops while ensuring proper documentation and close-out of actions
* Develop firewater demand calculations, hydraulic reports, and fire protection system layouts using PIPENET or equivalent software
* Review and approve firefighting systems, lifesaving equipment, safety signage, and personnel protection specifications
* Support P&ID markups related to firewater ring mains, deluge systems, monitors, hydrants, hose reels, and detection systems
* Review vendor and subcontractor submissions for compliance with project and customer specifications
* Coordinate closely with engineering disciplines, procurement, fabrication, project management, and customer teams
* Provide technical support for fabrication queries, defect rectification, and construction-stage HSE challenges
* Supervise engineers and designers, assign resources, and guide team performance across discipline deliverables
* Lead project audits, technical quality reviews, and design verification processes to ensure engineering excellence
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering
* Minimum 20 years of oil and gas industry experience with major EPC contractors or consultants
* Strong background in detailed engineering design for offshore and onshore facilities
* Deep expertise in fire protection systems, safety studies, and HSE engineering standards
* Strong knowledge of international design codes, offshore standards, and compliance requirements
* Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on large-scale complex projects
* Professional Engineer registration or membership in a recognized engineering body is preferred
* Excellent presentation, communication, and technical leadership capabilities
