Role Context
The Senior Principal Piping Engineer leads the highest level of piping engineering execution across critical energy infrastructure projects. This role shapes technical strategy, engineering quality, cost efficiency, and fabrication readiness while ensuring piping systems meet international standards and client expectations. The position directly influences project success, business performance, and engineering excellence across complex offshore and onshore developments.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed piping engineering analyses according to design basis, project specifications, codes, and standards
* Develop innovative and cost-effective technical solutions for complex piping engineering challenges
* Lead large engineering teams on major EPC projects and manage full discipline execution including scope, deliverables, manpower, and schedule
* Maintain responsibility for engineering progress, productivity, and corrective actions across assigned projects
* Represent the piping discipline during meetings with clients, project teams, certifying authorities, auditors, and third parties
* Mentor engineers, designers, and potential lead engineers while supporting department capability growth
* Coordinate closely with MOPEX offices and support multi-office project execution environments
* Define scopes of work for engineering and construction fabrication yard activities
* Prepare technical specifications, subcontract packages, piping requisitions, and bid evaluations
* Review vendor data, technical bids, and procurement documentation to ensure full compliance with project requirements
* Lead all material take-off and quantity control activities and supervise MTO and Control Engineers
* Prepare material control reports and analyze piping material quantity development for project management reporting
* Perform advanced pipe stress calculations and coordinate with plant design teams for required modifications
* Design adequate pipe supports and coordinate with Civil and Structural teams on supporting structures
* Maintain strong discipline interfaces with other engineering teams and ensure technical alignment
* Support project management with schedules, progress reports, deliverable control, and capital expenditure planning
* Manage scope changes proactively and communicate business and project impact effectively
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline
* Extensive experience in piping engineering for offshore, refinery, petrochemical, and major EPC projects
* Strong expertise in conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, and piping material management
* Proven leadership experience managing large multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Deep understanding of pipe stress analysis, support design, MTO control, and fabrication requirements
* Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction yard operations and client expectations
* Advanced experience in MOPEX and multi-office project execution environments
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and strategic decision-making skills for senior project leadership
