Role Context
The Senior Production Engineer provides technical and operational coordination across producing fields, processing facilities and injection systems. The position analyzes plant and well performance, identifies production bottlenecks and coordinates corrective actions needed to maintain sustainable output. Working across Operations, Development, Planning, Integrity, Projects and HSE teams, the role helps translate reservoir and production requirements into safe field execution while improving facility availability, process efficiency and cost per barrel.
Key Responsibilities
* Review operating and production data against planned targets, historical performance, laboratory analysis and prevailing field conditions.
* Identify significant deviations from approved Design Operating Envelopes and recommend corrective operational measures.
* Monitor oil production, gas handling, water injection, gas injection and CO2 injection performance against established KPIs.
* Coordinate production and injection adjustments with relevant stakeholders to achieve mandated field targets.
* Verify the accuracy of production, injection and export information entered into the PIES system.
* Work with Development and Planning teams on Field Sustainable Oil Production Rate exercises aligned with approved business plans.
* Coordinate Reservoir Monitoring Program activities and Water Alternating Gas well changeovers according to operational requirements.
* Plan and execute Field Technical Rate and Field Capacity Tests to identify facility constraints and determine optimum operating parameters.
* Analyze field capacity and process performance to identify bottlenecks that could restrict production or injection capability.
* Support alarm rationalization and alarm management activities while monitoring compliance with applicable performance KPIs.
* Troubleshoot chronic surface facility problems and recommend technically practical solutions that improve production availability.
* Participate in root cause analysis of major and repetitive equipment failures and follow corrective actions through implementation.
* Monitor equipment and process performance using operating trends and analytical reports to detect emerging abnormalities.
* Advise Operations personnel on appropriate responses to abnormal process and equipment conditions.
* Review, endorse and periodically update operating procedures and standing instructions for safe and cost-efficient plant operation.
* Coordinate with Integrated Shutdown Planning teams on five-year shutdown strategies and annual shutdown scopes.
* Optimize shutdown, handover and startup activities while considering manpower distribution, resources and production impact.
* Participate throughout project development, including design reviews, value engineering and 3D model reviews.
* Represent operational requirements during HAZOP, HAZID, OHID, Inherent Safe Design and Safety Integrity Level reviews.
* Review plot plans and project proposals, capturing operational lessons learned and identifying concerns that could affect future maintainability or production.
* Participate in Ready For Commissioning walkdowns and identify operational punch points before startup.
* Support commissioning activities and monitor post-commissioning performance to confirm facilities achieve expected operating results.
* Represent Operations during field trials of new technologies and ensure required technical and safety reviews are completed before implementation.
* Manage temporary and permanent operational modifications through approved Management of Change processes.
* Follow MOC requirements through engineering review, Scope of Work development, budget allocation, project inclusion, approval and execution.
* Support Tactical Response Team and Incident Management Team activities during emergencies and provide operational guidance when required.
* Perform On Scene Commander responsibilities when assigned and maintain accurate communication on facility status and ongoing field activities.
* Participate in operational risk assessments, process safety forums and Enterprise Risk Management Risk Register reviews.
* Conduct field visits and supervise critical, high-risk and non-routine operational activities.
* Work with Integrity teams to address surface facility anomalies through appropriate preventive and remedial actions.
* Coordinate subsurface integrity activities including communication testing, Below Cellar Inspection and Sustained Annulus Pressure investigations.
* Support safe operation and integrity of gas lift, ESP, water injection, gas injection and CO2 injection systems.
* Conduct worksite inspections, assess hazards associated with Permit to Work activities and verify that required precautions are implemented.
* Follow up on reported hazards and Near Miss findings and ensure corrective measures are progressed.
* Contribute to annual budget planning, expenditure control and cost optimization initiatives.
* Perform budget optimization and capitalization reviews aimed at reducing production cost per barrel.
* Consolidate material requirements and coordinate procurement needs to support uninterrupted field operations.
* Develop employees through technical coaching, work supervision and practical knowledge transfer.
* Provide production, operational and performance information for management reports, MIS reporting and section progress reviews.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s Degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in oil and gas production, processing or field operations.
* Practical understanding of oil production facilities, gas processing and hydrocarbon export operations.
* Experience with water injection, gas injection, gas lift, ESP wells and associated production systems.
* Knowledge of CO2 injection and distribution operations is advantageous.
* Strong ability to analyze production trends, process conditions and equipment performance.
* Experience identifying production bottlenecks and optimizing operating parameters.
* Understanding of Field Capacity Tests, Field Technical Rate exercises and sustainable production assessments.
* Familiarity with production and injection data management systems such as PIES.
* Working knowledge of reservoir monitoring activities and Water Alternating Gas operations.
* Experience troubleshooting surface facility problems and participating in equipment failure root cause analysis.
* Knowledge of alarm management, operational KPIs and Design Operating Envelope requirements.
* Exposure to integrated shutdown planning, startup and plant handover activities.
* Experience participating in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and other process safety studies.
* Understanding of commissioning, Ready For Commissioning reviews and post-startup performance monitoring.
* Practical knowledge of Management of Change processes and operational risk management.
