Role Context
The Senior Project Accountant - Project Finance will play a key role in managing project financial activities across billing, reporting, cash flow monitoring, intercompany balances, accruals, and cost analysis. The position supports project managers, project controls, procurement, subcontracts, and corporate finance teams by ensuring project accounting records are accurate, timely, and aligned with contract terms. This role contributes to better commercial visibility, improved financial control, and stronger project decision-making within a major energy project environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with project teams to understand contract billing requirements, invoicing milestones, commercial terms, and customer documentation needs.
* Prepare and review customer invoices for third-party clients, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contract terms.
* Compile and validate information required to support intercompany project billing and related internal financial processes.
* Confirm intercompany balances and resolve discrepancies through coordination with relevant finance and project stakeholders.
* Prepare unbilled cost accruals to ensure project costs and revenues are recorded in the correct accounting period.
* Generate, review, and verify Executive Summary Reports for intercompany projects to ensure consistency across project financial information.
* Run monthly system audit trail reports and review them for issues linked to business unit classifications or recording errors.
* Prepare and analyze Accounts Receivable Contract Status Reports, Accounts Receivable Aging Reports, and Unapplied Cash Reports.
* Make required adjustments to ensure billing, receivables, collections, and cash application activities are accurately recorded.
* Coordinate with project managers and project controls teams for forecast completion and preparation of project finance reports.
* Support local and corporate management reporting by providing accurate project finance information and timely analysis.
* Work with project managers, project procurement teams, and subcontracts coordinators to prepare, analyze, and maintain healthy project cash flows.
* Maintain internal financial control over assigned projects and ensure costs are correctly processed, coded, recorded, and reviewed.
* Ensure client invoices are issued on time according to agreed contract terms and project billing schedules.
* Act as a finance interface during client audits by supporting documentation, explanations, reconciliations, and project accounting records.
* Review and analyze project costs to identify unusual movements, incorrect charges, missing accruals, or reporting gaps.
* Provide inputs for ad-hoc finance reporting, project reviews, management requests, and corporate reporting requirements.
* Support colleagues with less experience by sharing practical project accounting knowledge and helping improve team discipline.
* Follow applicable accounting guidelines, company policies, internal controls, and project finance procedures.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related discipline.
* Relevant professional certification such as Chartered Accountant, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent is preferred.
* 5-7 years of project accounting, billing, finance, or cost reporting experience.
* Experience in oil and gas, EPCI, construction, engineering, or energy project environments is strongly preferred.
* Solid understanding of customer billing, intercompany billing, project accruals, accounts receivable, aging reports, unapplied cash, and project financial control.
* Experience working with ERP accounting software and system-generated financial reports.
* Ability to review project costs, identify accounting issues, and support corrective actions.
* Strong coordination skills with project management, project controls, procurement, subcontracts, finance, and corporate reporting teams.
* Good understanding of contract-based billing, project cash flow management, and client audit requirements.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines, reconcile data, and maintain accurate project finance records.
* Clear communication skills for explaining project finance matters to technical, commercial, and management stakeholders.
