Role Context
The Senior Subsea Engineer supports high-value offshore energy projects by applying specialist technical knowledge across subsea design, engineering analysis, procurement support, installation planning, and project execution. The role carries responsibility for solving complex engineering issues, reviewing vendor and subcontractor documents, preparing technical reports, supporting audits, and guiding junior engineers. By connecting engineering, fabrication, marine, procurement, and site requirements, this position helps improve subsea project quality, reduce technical risk, and ensure deliverables are aligned with client requirements, safety expectations, and applicable codes.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist engineering knowledge in subsea design, installation engineering, engineering analysis, and relevant industry design codes.
* Coordinate daily subsea engineering activities, priorities, and deliverables under limited supervision.
* Support tender engineering work, including document review, subcontractor document preparation, CTR input, bid evaluation, and vendor selection.
* Lead technical support for subsea projects covering procurement requirements, design engineering, installation engineering, and analytical work.
* Prepare and take responsibility for technical reports, design calculations, engineering analysis, and supporting project documentation.
* Interface with subcontractors, verification bodies, clients, vendors, and third-party technical representatives when required.
* Attend and prepare for project progress meetings, departmental meetings, technical reviews, and engineering coordination sessions.
* Perform installation analysis for SURF projects using industry-standard engineering software.
* Apply relevant subsea engineering standards, company procedures, legal requirements, and safety objectives in all deliverables.
* Train, guide, and mentor graduates, junior engineers, and less experienced team members.
* Support the development of technical knowledge in subsea design, analysis, installation methods, and engineering best practices.
* Understand client requirements and develop technically sound solutions that satisfy specifications, codes, and project constraints.
* Take ownership of design work, analysis packages, engineering calculations, and technical documentation quality.
* Liaise with operational engineers to support project engineering requirements, site visits, offshore trips, and execution-related activities.
* Build practical understanding of engineering, fabrication, marine, and other business unit interactions affecting subsea delivery.
* Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare reports, calculations, presentations, technical summaries, and project documentation.
* Capture project lessons learned in the company lessons learned system to support future engineering improvement.
* Participate in internal, client, customer, and third-party technical audits covering engineering deliverables and vendor documentation.
* Support proper technical handover when reassigned to other departments, construction sites, fabrication yards, or project teams.
* Assist colleagues and other projects when workload demands require cross-functional engineering support.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Engineering.
* 8-15 years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor or consultant, mainly in detailed design and subsea engineering.
* Strong experience in the design and analysis of subsea equipment, risers, pipelines, subsea structures, umbilicals, or related offshore systems.
* Practical knowledge of subsea installation engineering, SURF project requirements, technical analysis, and offshore execution constraints.
* Familiarity with industry-standard software packages for design and installation analysis, such as OrcaFlex, Pipelay, Offpipe, or Abaqus.
* Good understanding of commonly used subsea engineering codes, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
* Ability to prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, analysis documents, and design deliverables with accuracy.
* Experience reviewing vendor documents, subcontractor submissions, engineering deliverables, and third-party technical documentation.
* Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet demanding project deadlines.
* Good written and spoken English communication skills for technical coordination, reporting, and project meetings.
* HSE, TQM, and cost-conscious approach to engineering decisions and project execution.
* Ability to supervise engineers, support junior staff, and act as a technical resource for colleagues.
