Position Overview

Area Manager - Shift Operations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a Package-Freight Delivery opportunity leading a large and diverse team within Amazon\'s operational network. The role will maintain safe working standards, coordinate shift execution, improve productivity and quality, and ensure customer orders move efficiently through the assigned process area.

The successful candidate will combine hands-on people leadership with data analysis and process improvement. Working closely with other operations managers, engineers, support teams, and external partners, the Area Manager will address daily challenges, standardize workflows, and help the site meet customer demand across changing operational conditions.

The Area Manager - Shift Operations will be based at an Amazon operational site and take responsibility for the safety, engagement, and performance of an assigned team. The manager will organize daily activities, monitor process efficiency, and respond to operational issues that could affect service quality or customer delivery commitments.

The role requires a balance of routine team management, administrative responsibilities, individual escalations, process improvement, and contingency planning. By reviewing performance metrics and working with site stakeholders, the manager will implement corrective actions and create more consistent operating practices across shifts.

* Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and process risks before they affect employees or site performance.

* Lead and support a diverse team responsible for completing daily operational activities.

* Set clear shift expectations covering safety, productivity, quality, attendance, and customer service.

* Allocate work according to operational demand, staffing levels, employee capability, and process priorities.

* Coach employees and provide regular feedback to strengthen individual and team performance.

* Build an inclusive and supportive team culture that encourages engagement, cooperation, and continuous learning.

* Complete administrative responsibilities involving attendance, performance records, shift documentation, and employee follow-up.

* Monitor quality and productivity levels throughout each shift.

* Analyze performance metrics and identify the causes of missed targets, defects, delays, or workflow disruption.

* Develop and implement corrective actions that restore performance and prevent recurring problems.

* Confirm that corrective measures deliver measurable and sustainable improvements.

* Review operational processes and recommend changes that increase efficiency and improve customer service.

* Apply process improvement or Lean techniques to reduce waste, variation, delays, and unnecessary work.

* Collaborate with other managers to standardize operating procedures and shift-management practices.

* Share successful methods and lessons learned across operational teams.

* Prioritize daily team-management activities alongside escalations, improvement projects, and contingency planning.

* Develop operational recovery plans for unexpected volume, staffing, equipment, or process challenges.

* Work with colleagues from operations, engineering, maintenance, human resources, safety, and support functions.

* Coordinate with external partners when their activities affect site performance or customer commitments.

* Discuss technical improvement opportunities with engineering teams and assess their operational advantages and limitations.

* Use business data and performance reports to support informed decisions.

* Communicate shift performance, risks, corrective actions, and operational requirements to site leadership.

* Maintain accurate handovers so that outstanding actions and risks are understood by the next shift.

* Work flexible schedules based on operational needs, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Ideal Profile

* At least 1 year of employee and performance management experience.

* Bachelor\'s degree or an equivalent recognized qualification.

* Alternatively, at least 2 years of permanent Amazon employment experience may be considered.

* Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced operational environment.

* Strong commitment to workplace safety and employee wellbeing.

* Experience monitoring productivity, quality, attendance, or other operational performance indicators.

* Ability to analyze data and determine the root causes of performance issues.

* Practical problem-solving skills with the confidence to make decisions during changing operational conditions.

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build an engaged and accountable team.

* Experience completing administrative and performance-management responsibilities.
