Role Context
The Officer - Workplace Health and Safety will report to the Country Workplace Health and Safety Manager and support Amazon\'s third-party operational network. The role will evaluate workplace conditions, advise partner managers, and help ensure safety expectations are consistently applied across logistics sites.
The officer will use audits, incident investigations, performance metrics, and employee feedback to identify risks before they result in injuries or operational disruption. Findings will be converted into practical improvement plans, training actions, and preventive controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct scheduled and unannounced site visits to assess workplace safety conditions across third-party operations.
* Inspect work areas, equipment, material-handling activities, and operating practices for potential hazards.
* Provide clear recommendations that improve safety, employee wellbeing, and operational performance.
* Complete workplace risk assessments and identify suitable controls for observed hazards.
* Perform safety audits against Amazon policies, local procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
* Document audit findings accurately and assign corrective actions to responsible stakeholders.
* Track outstanding safety actions and confirm that agreed improvements are implemented within required timelines.
* Monitor safety metrics, inspection findings, incident rates, near misses, and recurring hazard trends.
* Prepare regular reports that highlight safety performance, emerging risks, and priority improvement areas.
* Analyze safety data to identify patterns requiring preventive intervention.
* Support the implementation of new safety standards, tools, procedures, and control measures.
* Provide operational managers and partner teams with practical guidance on workplace health and safety processes.
* Ensure third-party operations comply with applicable Amazon supply chain policies.
* Support compliance with UAE and regional workplace health and safety regulations.
* Lead safety discussions and contribute to shift briefings, toolbox talks, and operational meetings.
* Promote employee participation in hazard reporting and accident-prevention activities.
* Support investigations involving accidents, injuries, near misses, equipment incidents, and unsafe conditions.
* Gather evidence, interview relevant personnel, and review operational records during investigations.
* Identify immediate, contributing, and root causes of safety incidents.
* Develop corrective and preventive actions designed to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
* Ensure significant incidents are communicated promptly through the approved escalation process.
* Review the completion of mandatory safety training across partner operations.
* Evaluate whether training has improved employee knowledge and safe working behavior.
* Recommend refresher training when performance gaps or recurring risks are identified.
* Work with operations, maintenance, engineering, human resources, and partner-management teams on safety improvements.
* Maintain complete records of inspections, audits, risk assessments, investigations, and training activities.
Ideal Profile
* Educational or professional background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Instrumentation and Controls, or a related technical discipline.
* Practical understanding of workplace hazards in logistics, warehousing, distribution, maintenance, or industrial environments.
* Ability to conduct structured inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.
* Strong analytical skills for reviewing incident data and operational safety metrics.
* Ability to investigate accidents and near misses using root-cause analysis techniques.
* Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with managers, employees, and external partners.
* Strong attention to detail when documenting hazards, evidence, corrective actions, and compliance records.
* Confidence advising operational teams and challenging unsafe practices constructively.
* Ability to manage several site visits, reports, investigations, and action plans simultaneously.
* Proactive approach to hazard identification and accident prevention.
* Comfortable working in active logistics environments where operational conditions may change quickly.
* At least 1 year of experience maintaining conveyors, automated equipment, or control systems is preferred.
* Familiarity with material-handling equipment, automation systems, electrical controls, or mechanical systems is advantageous.
