Role Context
The Art Teacher - Upper Primary will support students in developing creativity, imagination, critical thinking, and practical artistic skills through structured lessons aligned with British Curriculum standards. The role contributes to a positive school learning culture by helping students explore different art forms, build confidence in self-expression, maintain portfolios, and participate in exhibitions, displays, and creative school activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality art lessons for Year 5, Year 6, and Year 7 students.
* Align lesson delivery with British Curriculum standards and school academic expectations.
* Encourage student creativity, imagination, self-expression, and appreciation of visual arts.
* Teach a range of art techniques using drawing, painting, design, craft, mixed media, and other suitable art forms.
* Support students in developing artistic skills, creative confidence, critical thinking, and visual presentation abilities.
* Assess student work regularly and provide constructive feedback to improve artistic progress.
* Maintain student portfolios, assessment records, lesson plans, and classroom documentation accurately.
* Organize classroom displays, exhibitions, art activities, and creative showcases that reflect student learning.
* Differentiate instruction to support students with varied learning needs, abilities, and creative confidence levels.
* Maintain classroom discipline and positive routines in line with school policies.
* Ensure safe handling of art materials, equipment, tools, and classroom resources.
* Collaborate with colleagues, parents, the Head of Department, and school leadership regarding student progress.
* Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, school events, and academic activities.
* Support the school’s vision, mission, values, and commitment to student-centered learning.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Art Education is mandatory.
* Teaching qualification or teaching license is required.
* Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in a similar art teaching role.
* Experience teaching the British Curriculum will be preferred.
* Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to inspire and motivate students creatively.
* Good planning, organization, assessment, and portfolio management skills.
* Strong knowledge of art techniques, classroom displays, student projects, and creative learning methods.
* Ability to create an inclusive learning environment for Year 5, Year 6, and Year 7 students.
