Role Context
The Chemistry Teacher - UK Curriculum role supports science teaching at Yasmina British Academy by delivering structured Chemistry lessons, strengthening student understanding, and helping learners make measurable progress across secondary science pathways. The teacher will use assessment data, curriculum planning, and targeted intervention to identify learning gaps and support students who need additional challenge or academic guidance.
This position also contributes to departmental improvement, enrichment programmes, booster sessions, revision support, curriculum continuity, and the wider school community. The successful candidate will help maintain high expectations for teaching quality, achievement, behaviour, safeguarding, and student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging Chemistry lessons aligned with the English National Curriculum and school academic standards.
* Support students preparing for IGCSE, IB DP, booster sessions, revision programmes, and science enrichment activities.
* Develop and review schemes of work that ensure curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression across year groups.
* Use student assessment data to identify underachievement and create practical action plans for improvement.
* Analyse school and departmental data to inform teaching strategies, policies, and self-evaluation planning.
* Provide suitable challenge and support for SEN, POD, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
* Set high expectations for student achievement, classroom behaviour, lesson quality, and independent learning.
* Evaluate teaching and learning standards to identify effective practice and areas requiring improvement.
* Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum development, resource use, and academic quality assurance.
* Support the department’s contribution to CAS programmes and after-school revision or booster sessions.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve science teaching, share resources, and support student outcomes.
* Use classrooms, laboratories, resources, and learning spaces effectively to create a stimulating science environment.
* Support efficient deployment of staff and resources where required by departmental planning.
* Maintain responsible use of departmental resources and budget-related requirements where applicable.
* Communicate professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership.
* Uphold safeguarding, child protection, professional conduct, and school policy expectations at all times.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related subject.
* PGCE or another recognised teacher qualification.
* Minimum 6 years of teaching experience.
* Experience teaching the UK curriculum.
* Secure knowledge of Chemistry subject content, assessment standards, and curriculum progression.
* Proven ability to raise achievement and close learning gaps through effective teaching strategies.
* Experience supporting students across different ability levels, including SEN, POD, gifted and talented, and EAL learners.
* Ability to contribute to departmental development, enrichment programmes, and whole-school improvement.
* Strong communication, collaboration, classroom management, and reflective teaching skills.
