Role Context
The Drama Teacher - GCSE Theatre will help students build confidence, creativity, performance discipline, collaboration, communication, and critical appreciation of theatre. Based at GEMS Founders School - Al Mizhar, the role supports a learning culture shaped by Grow, Flourish, and Mindfulness, where students are encouraged to express ideas, explore character and text, and develop performance skills in a safe and inspiring classroom. The teacher will also contribute to productions, extra-curricular activities, and wider school events that strengthen the performing arts profile of the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Teach Drama to students with a clear focus on GCSE curriculum expectations and practical theatre development.
* Plan creative lessons that develop performance technique, scripted work, improvisation, devising, voice, movement, characterisation, and stage awareness.
* Support students in understanding dramatic texts, theatre practitioners, performance analysis, and reflective evaluation.
* Prepare learners for GCSE Drama assessments, practical performances, written components, and examination requirements.
* Create a safe, inclusive, and expressive classroom environment where students can take creative risks with confidence.
* Use varied teaching strategies to support different learning styles, performance abilities, and confidence levels.
* Encourage collaboration, empathy, discipline, communication, mindfulness, and respect through drama-based learning.
* Provide constructive feedback that improves student performance, written reflection, and overall achievement.
* Share exemplary teaching practice with colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement in learning and teaching.
* Support school productions, showcases, assemblies, performance events, theatre clubs, and extra-curricular drama activities.
* Work closely with colleagues, students, and parents to support progress, participation, and student wellbeing.
* Maintain strong classroom management while promoting enthusiasm, creativity, and professional performance standards.
* Participate in professional development opportunities, including CPD and teacher growth pathways within the GEMS network.

Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Education is preferred.
* Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related subject with PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent teaching qualification is required.
* Proven experience teaching Drama to GCSE level.
* Early Career Teachers with strong subject knowledge and readiness for international teaching may be considered.
* Strong understanding of British curriculum Drama, GCSE assessment standards, performance requirements, and classroom practice.
* Ability to deliver outstanding learning and teaching through creative, practical, and student-focused lessons.
* Confident in supporting scripted performance, devised theatre, improvisation, theatre analysis, and written evaluation.
* Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching, productions, extra-curricular activities, and wider school life.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work closely with students, parents, and colleagues.
* Strong classroom management skills with a positive, inclusive, and motivating teaching style.
