Role Context

The English and Media Teacher will take responsibility for classroom learning, assessment and student progress. The role also includes curriculum collaboration, family communication, extracurricular participation and contributions to the wider academy community.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging English and Media lessons.
Ensure teaching meets Massachusetts Common Core Curriculum requirements.
Develop students’ reading, writing, speaking and listening abilities.
Build pupils’ understanding of media language and communication.
Encourage students to evaluate media content critically and responsibly.
Develop creativity through written, visual and digital communication activities.
Prepare lessons suitable for students across the full ability range.
Differentiate instruction according to individual learning needs.
Support pupils who speak English as an additional language.
Organise classroom resources and displays that encourage active learning.
Motivate students through enthusiastic and imaginative teaching.
Take responsibility for the progress and attainment of assigned classes.
Observe and assess pupils according to academy requirements.
Record student development using Target Tracker or other approved systems.
Use assessment data to improve planning, provision and intervention.
Identify learning gaps and provide appropriate academic support.
Reflect on lesson effectiveness and adjust planning when required.
Embed Yas American Academy’s Teacher and Learner values throughout the curriculum.
Work collaboratively with teachers to plan effective learning experiences.
Liaise flexibly and professionally with colleagues across the academy.
Cooperate with curriculum-support staff to strengthen student development.
Work with therapists and educational psychologists when required.
Develop positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
Provide parents and carers with clear feedback on student progress.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other family meetings.
Use CPOMS and other approved school systems appropriately.
Follow the academy’s behaviour-management policy.
Manage classes using approaches appropriate to students’ needs.
Maintain positive relationships while exercising suitable authority.
Promote high standards of behaviour, independence and self-control.
Model the attitudes, values and conduct expected from students.
Participate in curriculum action groups and team initiatives.
Support curriculum planning, assessment, resources and special events.
Contribute to school events, outings and community activities.
Attend occasional activities held during evenings or weekends.
Lead one weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
Maintain strong safeguarding and child-protection practices.
Complete professional duties in accordance with academy policies.
Ideal Profile
Bachelor’s degree in English, Media Studies, Communications or a related subject.
Bachelor of Education, PGCE or another recognised teaching qualification.
International-school teaching experience is advantageous.
Strong knowledge of English-language and media-education practices.
Previous experience supporting students whose first language is not English.
Ability to differentiate instruction for pupils with varied learning needs.
Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
Professional approach with careful consideration for student wellbeing.
Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.
