Role Context
The English Teacher - Middle and Senior role supports the delivery of high-quality English teaching within a British curriculum school in Abu Dhabi. The teacher will plan and present lessons that meet curriculum requirements, use assessment information to improve learning, and help students build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, listening, analysis, and independent study.
The position also includes pastoral responsibilities, parent communication, department collaboration, extra-curricular contribution, and active participation in the wider school community. The successful candidate will help maintain high expectations for student achievement, behaviour, wellbeing, and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging English lessons that inspire students and support strong academic outcomes.
* Plan, prepare, and present lessons that meet the needs of the full ability range within the classes taught.
* Work with fellow teachers to develop curriculum-aligned lessons, learning resources, and assessment activities.
* Support students in developing English language, literacy, communication, and analytical skills.
* Organise classroom provision, learning displays, and resources to create a positive and stimulating learning environment.
* Use school assessment systems to observe, record, and evaluate student development.
* Analyse assessment data to guide planning, intervention, and classroom support.
* Provide constructive feedback to students, parents, and carers on progress, achievement, and wellbeing.
* Act as a form tutor and support the pastoral needs of students.
* Maintain strong professional relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues, and curriculum support staff.
* Apply the school behaviour policy consistently while promoting self-control, independence, and positive conduct.
* Embed the school’s values, learner expectations, and positive learning culture throughout classroom practice.
* Communicate effectively through school systems and record wellbeing or safeguarding concerns through CPOMS when required.
* Contribute to departmental planning, assessment, resources, special events, and wider school initiatives.
* Support school events, outings, activities, and enrichment opportunities, including some evening or weekend commitments where needed.
* Run a weekly ECA each term to strengthen student engagement beyond the classroom.
* Take part in professional learning, reflective practice, and continuous improvement activities.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Education or bachelor degree in a related subject with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in the English National Curriculum.
* Experience teaching the UK National Curriculum.
* Strong ability to teach across the age and ability range with proven success.
* Outstanding classroom practice with a clear understanding of student progress and assessment.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships across the school community.
* Confident team player who can collaborate professionally with teachers, support staff, parents, and school leaders.
* Passion for education and a strong belief in the potential of every student.
* Ability to work under pressure, solve problems, and remain resilient in a busy school environment.
