Role Context
The Head of EYFS - Early Years role supports the academic direction, daily teaching quality, and continuous development of the early years section at Al Shohub Private School. The position requires a confident school leader who can help the academy meet its improvement priorities, strengthen curriculum planning, and ensure that children receive high-quality learning experiences in a safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment.
This role also carries responsibility for supporting assessment, curriculum continuity, staff performance, child protection expectations, and effective provision for students with different learning needs, including SEN, gifted and talented learners, and EAL students.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the academy’s vision, strategic priorities, improvement plan, and self-evaluation objectives.
* Lead the development and review of relevant EYFS schemes of work and early years learning pathways.
* Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression for all children across the early years phase.
* Maintain suitable learning provision for SEN, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
* Establish clear practices for assessing, recording, and reporting student achievement.
* Use assessment and classroom information to strengthen planning, intervention, and early learning outcomes.
* Support teaching quality through reflective practice, curriculum guidance, and professional collaboration.
* Contribute to school improvement initiatives that enhance learning, wellbeing, and student development.
* Promote safe working practices in line with health and safety, safeguarding, and child protection expectations.
* Complete annual safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and academy improvement training.
* Follow academy policies covering equal opportunities, acceptable use of technology, staff conduct, and professional standards.
* Support the performance management process and act as a reviewer if directed by the Principal.
* Encourage high expectations for staff, learners, behaviour, communication, and classroom practice.
* Work closely with school leaders, teachers, parents, and support teams to maintain a positive early years environment.
* Uphold the values of the Emirati community while supporting the wider ethos of the school.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in a related subject with PGCE or another recognised teacher qualification.
* Minimum 6 years of teaching experience in the English National Curriculum.
* Strong understanding of EYFS practice, early years curriculum planning, and child-centred learning.
* Previous experience supporting students for whom English is not their first language.
* Ability to lead curriculum improvement, assessment practice, and inclusive provision.
* Strong commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and educating the whole child.
* Positive, solution-focused approach to school leadership and daily professional responsibilities.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with staff, families, and school leadership.
* Understanding of UAE school expectations, cultural values, and regulatory standards.
* Clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police clearance.
