Role Context
The Head of ICT - Computer Science role supports the strategic direction and academic development of the ICT and Computer Science department at Noya British School in Abu Dhabi. The position focuses on curriculum quality, student progress, staff performance, resource planning, and the continued development of digital learning across year groups and examination pathways.
This role requires a leader who can create strong schemes of work, use data to identify underachievement, support inclusive provision, and maintain high standards in teaching, assessment, behaviour, and student outcomes. The successful candidate will also contribute to CAS activities, academic mentoring, extended essay supervision, examinations, and the wider professional life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the strategic direction and development of the ICT and Computer Science department.
* Develop and implement departmental policies that reflect the school vision, academic aims, and high expectations.
* Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term development plans for the department.
* Use student performance data to identify underachievement and create targeted action plans.
* Analyse school data to inform departmental policies, improvement planning, and school self-evaluation.
* Develop, review, and evaluate schemes of work for all relevant year groups and courses.
* Ensure schemes of work include suitable provision for SEN, POD, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
* Maintain curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression across ICT and Computer Science learning.
* Establish clear systems for assessing, recording, and reporting student achievement.
* Set high expectations for staff regarding achievement standards, teaching quality, learning outcomes, and behaviour.
* Evaluate teaching and learning across the department and take action to improve practice where needed.
* Support preparation for IGCSE, IB DP, booster sessions, revision programmes, and digital learning enrichment.
* Ensure the department contributes to the school’s CAS programme and after-school learning opportunities.
* Performance manage the team in line with the school performance management policy.
* Build constructive working relationships across the department based on collaboration, accountability, and professional standards.
* Hold regular department meetings with clear agendas, minutes, and a focus on improving student achievement.
* Deploy staff, learning resources, and department facilities effectively.
* Manage departmental resource and CapEx budgets responsibly.
* Use learning spaces effectively to create a safe, stimulating, and technology-rich teaching environment.
* Ensure health and safety procedures are observed and risks are properly assessed.
* Lead or support one after-school activity each term, including Model United Nations where required.
* Act as an Academic Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor for Year 12 and Year 13 students.
* Support staff duty rotas, colleague cover, examination invigilation, and school operational needs when required.
* Uphold safeguarding, child protection, professional conduct, and school policy expectations at all times.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in ICT, Computer Science, Education, Information Technology, or a related subject.
* PGCE or another recognised teacher qualification.
* Minimum 6 years of teaching experience.
* Strong experience in ICT, Computer Science, digital learning, or technology-related curriculum delivery.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Proven ability to lead curriculum planning, departmental improvement, and student achievement.
* Strong understanding of assessment, reporting, data analysis, and academic intervention planning.
* Ability to lead, support, and performance manage teaching staff.
* Confident communicator with strong teamwork, organisation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism and consideration for student wellbeing.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curricular activities.
