Role Context
The Head of Inclusion - SEN Leadership role supports the development and delivery of inclusive education at Al Shohub Private School in Abu Dhabi. The position focuses on strengthening SEN provision, identifying learner needs, guiding intervention strategies, and ensuring that students of determination receive effective academic, social, emotional, and developmental support.
This role requires a confident inclusion leader who can work closely with teachers, inclusion assistants, families, school leaders, and external specialists. The successful candidate will help maintain accurate SEN records, lead targeted support, train staff, support differentiated teaching, and uphold the school’s commitment to high-quality learning within a community rooted in Emirati values and ADEK expectations.
Key Responsibilities
* Promote inclusion across the school and support a culture where all learners can participate and progress.
* Act as an exemplary classroom teacher and guide staff on SEN, inclusion, and differentiated teaching practice.
* Lead and line manage staff employed to support children with special educational needs.
* Maintain accurate SEN records, registers, IEPs, care plans, and intervention documentation.
* Review whole-school assessment data to identify priority areas and students requiring targeted support.
* Conduct assessments to identify learner needs, development delays, intervention priorities, and progress gaps.
* Develop high-quality IEPs and intervention plans aligned with student needs and measurable outcomes.
* Coordinate provision for students of determination across classroom, intervention, and transition pathways.
* Provide induction, coaching, and training for the inclusion team and inclusion assistants.
* Deliver training for colleagues and families to strengthen inclusive learning support.
* Undertake co-teaching with class and subject teachers to support differentiated lesson delivery.
* Support admissions, evaluations, assessments, and transitions for students of determination.
* Administer or coordinate standardised assessments to inform provision and support planning.
* Monitor and track student attainment, progress, and intervention effectiveness using accurate data.
* Work with teachers to ensure classroom strategies match learner needs and support student independence.
* Collaborate with families, school leaders, external professionals, and relevant support services.
* Uphold safeguarding, child protection, confidentiality, professional conduct, and school policy expectations.
Ideal Profile
* Qualified teacher status or recognised teaching qualification.
* SEN qualification at master’s level or external certification in an aspect of SEN.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in the field of SEN.
* Previous experience leading SEN or learning support in a primary or secondary school.
* Strong experience maintaining accurate and meaningful SEN registers.
* Proven ability to develop high-quality IEPs and intervention plans.
* Capacity to identify a range of need types and development delays.
* Experience administering standardised assessments to inform support provision.
* Experience delivering specific intervention programmes and measuring their effectiveness.
* Ability to use data to monitor and track the progress and attainment of students of determination.
* Strong communication skills with students, families, teachers, inclusion staff, and school leaders.
