Role Context
The Head of Key Stage 2 - Curriculum role supports academic leadership at Al Shohub Private School in Abu Dhabi, a British curriculum primary school rooted in Emirati community values and guided by ADEK expectations. The position focuses on developing effective policies, improving teaching practice, reviewing schemes of work, and ensuring that every Key Stage 2 student receives appropriate challenge, support, and progression.
This role requires a leader who can use school data to identify underachievement, create action plans, support curriculum continuity, and guide teachers toward high-quality learning outcomes. The successful candidate will help maintain strong expectations for achievement, behaviour, inclusion, safeguarding, and whole-child development.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and implementation of Key Stage 2 policies and practices aligned with the school vision and academic aims.
* Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term plans for department improvement.
* Use student data to identify underachievement and create targeted action plans to support progress.
* Analyse school and departmental data to inform policies, improvement planning, and school self-evaluation.
* Develop, review, and evaluate schemes of work across relevant year groups and courses.
* Ensure schemes of work include suitable provision for SEN, POD, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
* Maintain curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression across Key Stage 2.
* Support students of all abilities, including high ability learners and students with special educational needs.
* Set clear expectations for staff in relation to achievement, teaching quality, learning standards, and behaviour.
* Evaluate teaching and learning across the department and identify effective practice and areas for improvement.
* Take practical action to improve lesson quality, classroom outcomes, and student engagement.
* Work with teachers to strengthen planning, assessment, differentiation, and intervention.
* Promote a positive learning culture that supports confidence, independence, curiosity, and strong academic habits.
* Communicate professionally with staff, students, parents, and school leadership.
* Support enrichment opportunities that enhance student learning beyond the classroom.
* Uphold safeguarding, child protection, professional conduct, and school policy expectations at all times.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in a related subject.
* PGCE or another recognised teacher qualification.
* Minimum 6 years of teaching experience.
* Experience teaching the UK curriculum.
* Strong knowledge of Key Stage 2 curriculum planning, assessment, and student progress.
* Proven ability to raise standards and close learning gaps through effective teaching strategies.
* Experience supporting SEN, POD, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
* Ability to lead curriculum development, staff expectations, and teaching improvement.
* Strong communication, collaboration, classroom management, and reflective leadership skills.
* Commitment to an extensive enrichment programme.
