Role Context
The Inclusion Assistant - SEN Support role supports inclusive learning at Al Rayana Charter School by helping individual pupils access classroom activities, specialist lessons, school routines, interventions, trips, and extra-curricular experiences. The position focuses on practical student support, IEP goal implementation, differentiated learning resources, behaviour guidance, and the development of independence.
This role requires confidentiality, patience, teamwork, and a strong understanding of student support needs. The successful candidate will help students remain engaged, follow learning tasks, build self-esteem, strengthen social communication, and benefit from therapy-linked interventions in partnership with school and external professionals.
Key Responsibilities
* Support individual pupils inside and outside the classroom so they can participate fully in school activities.
* Assist students within group settings and through one-to-one support where required.
* Help implement individual education programmes linked to student IEP goals.
* Monitor student progress and contribute to updates on attainment, engagement, and development.
* Support pupils with academic, physical, emotional, behavioural, social, and communication needs.
* Prepare learning materials and resources that help students access or differentiate the curriculum.
* Promote independence by teaching clear, meaningful, and practical learning strategies.
* Assist homeroom and subject teachers with maintaining pupil records.
* Provide individual instruction as directed by the teacher and support group instruction where appropriate.
* Demonstrate instructional activities and help students understand assigned tasks.
* Monitor work assigned by teachers and support students while tasks are in progress.
* Keep individual pupils and peers focused, encouraged, and engaged during learning activities.
* Praise student achievements and report progress or concerns to the teacher.
* Supervise pupils in classrooms, specialist lessons, school activities, and other school locations.
* Support behaviour expectations in line with whole-school policy while promoting self-esteem and positive discipline.
* Attend SaLT, OT, or ABA therapy sessions where required and help deliver follow-up interventions to consolidate target skills.
* Work with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals when needed.
* Attend ECA sessions, trips, visits, training sessions, and professional meetings as required.
* Maintain close working relationships with homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and the Head of Inclusion.
* Respect confidentiality and follow school communication protocols, especially regarding formal parent communication.
* Follow health and safety, code of conduct, safeguarding, and school policy requirements.
* Set a strong example through punctuality, attendance, dress, professionalism, and conduct.
* Mentor new Inclusion Assistants when requested, or participate in mentoring as part of professional development.
* Carry out additional duties assigned by the Principal or Head of Inclusion.
Ideal Profile
* UAE National candidate.
* SEN qualification or diploma.
* Minimum 2 years of SEN experience.
* Experience supporting students with additional learning needs in a school environment.
* Ability to support IEP goals, differentiated learning, classroom participation, and student independence.
* Understanding of academic, behavioural, emotional, physical, social, and communication support needs.
* Able to work professionally with teachers, therapists, school leaders, students, and support teams.
* Strong commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and respectful student support.
* Patient, caring, reliable, and proactive approach to inclusive education.
* Ability to follow teacher direction while using initiative to support student learning.
