Role Context
The Inclusion Assistant - UAE National role supports inclusive learning at Abdulla Bin Otaiba Charter School in Abu Dhabi. The position focuses on helping individual pupils access the curriculum, follow classroom routines, develop independence, and make progress against their individual education programme goals.
This role requires close collaboration with homeroom teachers, subject teachers, the Head of Inclusion, therapists, and other school professionals. The successful candidate will provide academic, emotional, behavioural, physical, social, and communication support while maintaining confidentiality, safeguarding standards, and a positive approach to student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Support individual pupils inside and outside the classroom so they can participate fully in school activities.
* Provide one-to-one and small-group support based on student needs and teacher direction.
* Assist with the implementation of individual education programmes linked to student IEP goals.
* Contribute to monitoring student progress, attainment, engagement, and classroom participation.
* Support pupils with academic, physical, emotional, behavioural, social, and communication needs.
* Prepare materials and resources that help students access or differentiate the curriculum.
* Promote student independence by teaching clear, meaningful, and practical learning strategies.
* Assist homeroom and subject teachers with maintaining pupil records.
* Provide academic assistance through individual instruction or group support where appropriate.
* Demonstrate instructional activities and help students understand assigned classroom tasks.
* Monitor work assigned by teachers, keeping pupils focused and engaged while tasks are in progress.
* Praise student achievements and report progress or concerns to the teacher.
* Supervise pupils in classrooms, specialist lessons, school activities, trips, visits, and other school locations.
* Support positive behaviour, self-esteem, and discipline in line with whole-school policy.
* Attend SaLT, OT, or ABA therapy sessions when required and support follow-up interventions to consolidate target skills.
* Attend ECA sessions, school trips, training sessions, and professional meetings as required.
* Work with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals when needed.
* Build close and open working relationships with homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and the Head of Inclusion.
* Follow confidentiality guidelines and respect school procedures for formal parent communication.
* Comply with health and safety, code of conduct, safeguarding, and all relevant school policies.
* Maintain a strong example through punctuality, attendance, dress, and professional conduct.
* Mentor new Inclusion Assistants when requested or participate in mentoring as part of development.
* Carry out additional duties assigned by the Principal or Head of Inclusion.
Ideal Profile
* UAE National candidate.
* Minimum SEN qualification.
* Secondary school certificate or bachelor’s degree.
* At least 1 year of experience in UAE schools.
* English language skills or the language used in the school curriculum.
* Understanding of student support needs in an inclusive school environment.
* Ability to assist with IEP goals, classroom access, differentiated resources, and student progress.
* Patient, caring, reliable, and professional approach to student support.
* Ability to work closely with teachers, inclusion teams, therapists, and school leaders.
