Role Context
The Music Teacher - GCSE and A Level role supports outstanding learning and teaching at Yasmina British Academy, an English Curriculum school in Abu Dhabi with strong academic expectations and a well-established learning culture. The teacher will plan purposeful lessons, use assessment and performance data to guide student progress, and help learners develop musical knowledge, creativity, confidence, and examination readiness.
This position also requires active contribution to the wider life of the academy, including student enrichment, performances, parent communication, professional development, safeguarding responsibilities, and collaboration with colleagues across the school community.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging Music lessons that challenge students and support strong academic and creative outcomes.
* Teach specialist Music up to GCSE and A Level standard.
* Set clear learning objectives and explain how lessons will be taught, assessed, and developed.
* Plan structured lessons that maintain pace, motivation, challenge, and student interest.
* Use assessment, performance data, and key indicators to guide planning and provide differentiated learning.
* Identify students who require SEN support, additional challenge, or targeted intervention.
* Ensure students develop musical knowledge, practical skills, performance confidence, and subject understanding.
* Mark and monitor student work, set progress targets, and maintain accurate records of achievement.
* Assess student progress systematically and use results to strengthen future teaching and learning.
* Prepare students for internal assessments and examination body requirements where applicable.
* Maintain an effective classroom environment in line with academy procedures and behaviour expectations.
* Make effective use of classroom support, learning resources, and available teaching time.
* Contribute to subject development plans with clear targets and success measures.
* Participate in academy meetings, management systems, parent consultations, open events, and liaison activities.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to share resources and support the academic life of the academy.
* Take responsibility for professional development and follow academy policies and practices.
* Complete safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and academy improvement training.
* Uphold professional conduct, safe working practices, equal opportunity standards, and student wellbeing expectations.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Music or a relevant subject.
* Recognised teaching qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of experience teaching the specialist subject up to GCSE and A Level.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Strong subject knowledge with the ability to teach Music confidently across secondary levels.
* Ability to plan lessons that support different learning needs and stretch high-achieving students.
* Skilled in using assessment data to improve student progress and classroom outcomes.
* Passion for teaching and strong commitment to educating the whole child.
* Professional, respectful, and considerate approach to student wellbeing.
