The Physical Education Teacher - GCSE and A Level role supports outstanding learning and teaching at Yasmina British Academy, a high-performing English Curriculum school in Abu Dhabi. The teacher will plan structured PE lessons, support students preparing for GCSE and A Level examination pathways, and contribute to a strong sporting culture built around skill development, teamwork, discipline, resilience, and healthy participation.
This position requires a reflective and energetic PE professional who can use assessment data, varied teaching methods, coaching strategies, and inclusive practice to help students reach their potential. The role also includes curriculum development, parent reporting, sports team leadership, safeguarding training, academy events, and professional contribution to the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging Physical Education lessons that challenge students and support strong learning outcomes.
* Teach specialist PE content up to GCSE and A Level where required.
* Support exam PE delivery, including Edexcel GCSE and A Level preparation.
* Coach and lead high-level sports teams across school competitions and extra-curricular programmes.
* Teach and develop student skills in volleyball, basketball, athletics, and wider physical education activities.
* Set clear learning objectives and explain how lessons will be taught, assessed, and improved.
* Plan lessons that maintain pace, motivation, challenge, and student interest.
* Use assessment, performance data, and key indicators to guide planning and differentiated learning.
* Identify SEN students, high-ability students, and learners requiring additional support or challenge.
* Maintain an effective PE learning environment aligned with academy procedures and behaviour expectations.
* Encourage punctuality, positive conduct, sportsmanship, high standards of work, and safe participation.
* Assess, mark, monitor, and record student progress systematically.
* Set clear progress targets and prepare informative reports for parents.
* Select suitable learning resources and use ICT or other learning technologies where relevant.
* Evaluate teaching practice critically and adjust methods to improve student engagement and achievement.
* Contribute to subject development plans with clear targets and success criteria.
* Participate in academy improvement activities, staff briefings, professional development, and whole-school initiatives.
* Cooperate with colleagues to share resources and support department and academy priorities.
* Take part in open events, parent teacher consultations, liaison activities, and academy community events.
* Follow academy policies on safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, equal opportunities, dress code, acceptable use, and professional conduct.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
* Recognised teaching qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of experience teaching a specialist subject up to GCSE and A Level is desirable.
* Excellent knowledge of volleyball, basketball, and athletics.
* Experience delivering exam PE, especially Edexcel GCSE and A Level.
* Experience coaching and leading high-level sports teams.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Strong understanding of assessment, reporting, differentiation, and student progress tracking.
* Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism and consideration for student wellbeing.
