Role Context
The Physical Education Teacher - KG to Grade 8 role supports student health, movement skills, teamwork, confidence, and sports participation at Yasmina American School in Abu Dhabi. The teacher will plan and deliver structured PE lessons, use assessment data to improve learning, and create a positive sports environment where students are motivated to participate, challenge themselves, and develop lifelong fitness habits.
This position also contributes to curriculum development, school improvement, student reporting, parent communication, sports events, extra-curricular activities, and the wider academy community. The successful candidate will help students build discipline, resilience, coordination, leadership, and respect through high-quality physical education.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging Physical Education lessons for students from KG to Grade 8.
* Plan structured PE lessons with clear objectives, suitable challenge, and measurable learning outcomes.
* Teach and coach sports including volleyball, basketball, athletics, and other age-appropriate physical activities.
* Create a safe, motivating, and inclusive environment for physical development and student participation.
* Set clear targets based on prior attainment and support students in building confidence, fitness, and technical skills.
* Use assessment, performance data, and key indicators to guide lesson planning and differentiated instruction.
* Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare informative reports for parents.
* Evaluate lesson delivery and adjust teaching methods to improve student engagement and achievement.
* Support students for whom English is not their first language through clear instruction and inclusive practice.
* Coach and lead school sports teams where required, including preparation for competitions and events.
* Support examination-related PE requirements and student assessment procedures where applicable.
* Contribute to curriculum development plans with clear targets and success criteria.
* Maintain high expectations for punctuality, behaviour, effort, sportsmanship, and safe participation.
* Build effective working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and school leaders.
* Participate in parent consultations, open events, marketing activities, and school liaison initiatives.
* Cooperate with staff to share resources and support department and academy priorities.
* Attend staff briefings, professional training, safeguarding sessions, and health and safety training.
* Follow academy policies covering safe working practice, equal opportunities, dress code, acceptable use, and professional conduct.
* Uphold safeguarding, child protection, student wellbeing, and school policy expectations at all times.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
* Recognised teaching qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of PE teaching experience from KG to Grade 8 is desirable.
* Strong knowledge of volleyball, basketball, and athletics.
* Experience delivering exams or formal student assessment is an advantage.
* Experience coaching and leading high-level sports teams.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Strong understanding of lesson planning, assessment, classroom management, and sports safety.
* Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism and consideration for student wellbeing.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curricular sports activities.
